I'm still surprised prices didn't skyrocket when it started leaking into the gulf.

Most likely this didn't happen because oil companies have great hearts and care about the consumer. Or maybe it would of been too obvious they wanted to fuck the shit out of us even more.

20¢ in 3 weeks.

I know I noticed it too. And this is before they start blaming adding, what is it, Ozone or something? During the winter they say they have to put in some sort of admixture which adds to the cost. Utter BS. When you add it all up and divide it out, that addition would only ammount to pennies per tank, but they up it by 5-10 cents per gallon in the name of saving the environment they give a rats 401K to.

Gas prices have risen 15cents a gallon locally in the last three weeks ... but I take some solace in the fact that I am still paying less than $3 a gallon for premium.

The market consensus is that China & the rest of the world demand is continuing to grow at a rapid rate and oil is getting harder and harder to get at, therefor the cost of fuel is going up to offset extraction and exploring costs.

North Sea oil production will drop 9% this year, that surprised everyone because the decline is twice as fast as expected.
Many people blindly condemns tar sands oil as dirty oil.
Middle East is unstable.

Your "consensus" is 110% pure bullshit.

Who do you work for? Exxon, BP, Haliburton?

Oil inventories have been and still at 30 year highs and refineries at 20% of capacity in the U.S.

You guys do realize that the biggest reason oil and gas prices dropped so much since 2008 was the economy tanked, so demand tanked, right? As demand goes back up, oil and gas prices will increase again because we never fixed the supply side. Local drilling and new, more efficient and RELIABLE refineries would help out quite a bit, but some people want us to be at the mercy of foreign oil resources

This is great news. I loaded up on oil stocks this summer after they got murdered from BP spill. Up six figures already.

Huge shortage of oil

http://www.businessspectator.com.au...-suggests-big-Chin-AFJFQ?opendocument&src=rss

Record crude oil supply suggests big China stockpiling

10-22-2010 A record influx of crude oil into China last month far surpassed the needs of the country's refining sector, leaving an apparent surplus of 1.5 million barrels per day

The unexplained bulge, enough to supply Spain, could suggest China has begun shipping oil into its new strategic reserve tanks in earnest, an event hotly-awaited by traders as it will boost Chinese buying beyond its own already growing needs.

September data showed record imports and production, coupled with a release of commercial stockpiles, all of which left the market flush with oil. But refining barely budged from August, leaving a mountain of oil looking for a home elsewhere in China.

"China is definitely building up stocks, especially commercial ones, as the companies have been adding tanks and pipelines,"

China is on the brink of launching a new oil pipeline from Russia, and Russia's top oil producer Rosneft has sold China 550,000 tonnes to get the link under way.

First-ever fuel efficiency rules proposed for trucks, buses

10-24-2010

Future tractor-trailers, school buses, delivery vans, garbage trucks and heavy-duty pickup trucks must do better at the pump under first-ever fuel efficiency rules coming from the Obama administration.

The plan is expected to seek about a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption from longhaul trucks, according to people familiar with the plan.

The rules will cover big rig tractor-trailers, "vocational trucks" such as garbage trucks and transit and school buses, and work trucks such as heavy-duty versions of the Ford F-Series, Dodge Ram and Chevrolet Silverado.

The White House has pushed for tougher fuel economy standards across the nation's fleet as a way to reduce dependence on oil and cut greenhouse gas emissions tied to global warming.

Medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks are much less fuel-efficient than conventional automobiles; the fleet of tractor-trailers typically get about 6 mpg to 7 mpg, while work trucks can achieve 10 to 11 mpg. But they still consume about 20 percent of the transportation fuel in the U.S.

Obama estimated then that the fuel efficiency of tractor-trailers could be improved by 25 percent using existing technologies.
"This is going to bring down the costs of transporting — for transporting goods, serving businesses and consumers alike," Obama said on May 21, flanked by executives with Daimler Trucks, Volvo, Cummins and Navistar, and trucking industry and union officials.

with the way gas prices keep going up, we will prob keep our 7.5 year old civic for 10 more years. Hard to beat 30+ MPG in the city.

Gas prices here are the highest they've been in almost two years. $1.05/litre here today. Thank a nice fat increase in the gas tax for that. All those civil servants the government hired to hand out stimulus cheques don't come cheap. Still a far cry from when it was touching the $1.30 range back in early 2008.
