Heard this last night, gas prices will skyrocket by the end of the week due to Sandy's shutting down some refineries, don't know how true this will be but given the oil industries record of raising prices over almost anything I rather tend to believe it, might want to fill 'er up today...

They always find reasons to jack prices up so I wouldn't be surprised.

I heard Chicago jumped 30 cents or so already yesterday. We are still at 3.29 here, filled up both vehicles this morning.

I live near one of the cheapest gas stations in the area. Was $3.29 on Saturday. At $3.59 this morning.

I'm in the SW burbs of Chicago.

Chicago gas is about $9/gallon right now. Going to be $30 by end of the week.

How the hell...I've been paying almost $4 for premium for a while, and I'm not even in an expensive state.

I live in CA, I would love for gas to go back to under 4 bucks a gallon. Currently average around 4.59 where i live

I buy premium either way, but it's still cheaper than it was say .. 1 month ago which was about 3.89 for unleaded.

Unless you vehicle manufacturer states the car requires premium you are doing nothing but wasting $$. If you want to clean your injectors buy a couple of bottles of Techron..

3.20 range here and dropping lately.

Many mfgs, I think, are just listing their cars as requiring 87 octane, even though 91 or 93 does increase the engine output. They don't want the stigma of "requiring" premium fuel.

Ford springs to mind. Lots of their cars "require" only 87 octane, but actually make more power on 93 octane. Sometimes they tell you, sometimes they don't.

Supposed to go up 2 cents a litre here overnight. Still a lot cheaper than it has been. We were paying $1.30/l just a month ago.

$3.26 is the cheapest in town. I hope it stays low at least till Thursday. I've still got half a tank of gas. =\

Prices have been on the decreate as of late, so unless refineries have unforseen delays in resuming production (the largest did not sustain damage), the effect should be fairly minimal. That said, I don't doubt some locales could see prices temporarily spike in the interim, as speculators drive up the price on the commodities markets.

Not sure why gas prices would necessarily rise.

Transportation infrastructure was damaged, but most of that was coastal roads/highways and public transportation. Goods can still easily flow into affected areas, so supplies shouldn't be in low availability.

Countering that, there are probably tens of thousands of vehicles (maybe much, much higher) that were instantly totaled last night, lowering demand.
