If I had done that I would have had someone complain that there is no "best quality" gas (i.e. they are all the same). And no, I did not want everyone to choose the first option as you stupidly claim, otherwise I would not have started this thread in the first place. I'm not claiming there is no difference; I'm just trying to find out if anyone knows of a scientific study proving/disproving these companies' claims.
And futhermore, I have not even revealed my position to this topic in this thread.
Herr Kutz said:Does anyone here think buying "high quality" gas with additives from Shell, Exxon, Chevron, etc. really benefits a car at all?
Yes you did, with your wording of your poll and then later on with phrases like
You have two major tells here. You've put high quality in quotation marks, making it obvious to us that you feel that all gasoline is the same and that you're only using the phrase high quality because that is what someone who believes there is a difference in fuel would say. The other is the choice of the word really.
Let's take two sentences.
Do you think it is going to rain today?
Do you really think it is going to rain today?
In which am I asking you if you think it is going to rain, and in which am I acting like I am asking you a question, but instead am asserting that the view that it is going to rain is a silly view?
You appear to have taken offense where none was intended, which leads me to believe you weren't interested in purchasing habits and were more interested in proving yourself correct to your friend who has no qualms about paying slightly more for fuel than you may.
I fill up at Mobil stations usually. I also use Mobil 1 full synthetic motor oil. Mostly because that dude with the cornrows says he knows I like Mobil with my Mobil, so he got me Mobil in my mobile which helps keep the car mobile.

I am sure fuel cleanliness is largely standardized. I can't believe some people think just because its fractions of a dollar cheaper, that it must be terrible. I mean the price is within 2-3%, how shitty could this cheaper fuel be?
I've never had a problem running any brand of fuel in my Honda. I've only once had it where my car was pinging on cheap premium fuel from a no name station. But that was a premium using vehicle. I would say that fuel did not meet the octane requirements exactly.
Holiday went top tier, that is where I go now
I would like to point out that manufacturers are starting to work with top tier suppliers to tune their engines to that blend of fuel, so you may find not only an octane recommendation in your manual, but a supplier recommendation as well.
I only avoid Arco. Not because of the gas, but it's owned by BP.
Personal thing, really.
You mean paying an extra $2.50 a tank for some stupid additive from company A is a waste of money? :sneaky:I have an uncle who delivers gas. All the gas comes out of the same line for all the vendors. The only difference is the additives, he presses a button for wichever vendor he is delivering for.
Therefore there is no reason to buy expensive gas.
