The attendant at the Safeway gas station I went to today said to expect gas to go up to $4.25 per gallon. Fvck that.
But WTF is the reason? This is NOT due to supply and demand and THAT MUCH of a spike is NOT due to the hurricane, either. So it simply price gouging? And how is that legal? And why the FVCK does the government not give a sh!t.

The U.S. has always enjoyed chepaer prices than Europe. With many refineries close to home being shut down, we have to get our oil from other places. And also, it's because these refineries will be shut down for months. (according to washington post)

yup, even with 3.50, US is still amongst the CHEAPESTgas prices (of course, besides the middle east, where they own theirs).
with $4 a gallon, you are actually close to being what most of the other countries are paying in europe, india, etc.

And, as said many times, it's because most of those other nations tax the sh!t out of the gas. If the US had the same taxes as those places, we would "nearly" have double the price of what they have at this time!

Imo a 10min wait is unexceptable for rapid transit. I say let gas hit $10/gallon for it will be the end of the automobil era!

good luck with the T, and when winter comes watch out for heating oil prices.

does anyone know the specific reason to why the huge gas spike in the recent days and in the recent years?? I heard something about the hurricane doing something to the Gulf supply...but what about the recent years??

You should be happy, you are paying less than we are. That's a first. Hawaii was the first time I saw over $2.20, $2.50, and $2.90 a gallon.

Do you realize a big chunk of our population doesn't live in the middle of a large city with decent public transportation? What about farmers? What about all the trucks that carry goods to the stores you shop at? Are you ready to pay a lot more for everything you buy?
Would that really make you happy too?

It just spiked a good .50 a gallon in 2 days in the Boston Metro area. Can someone explain this? One day I was paying 2.77 and 2 days later I was paying 3.29. Nothing but gouging comes to mind. :disgust::|
My car gets ~20mpg, and I have to commute 80 miles a day. Not a happy situation.

Gas price actually has not been raise along with inflation. We should had hit $3 for long time ago but yet keeping at 1.60 whatever.
And oil jump from $30 to now $70 range, added the cost to refine (and the limit facilty we are operating at), call for higher quality gas (a duty we have to pay) and finally the big profit oil company making. I don't think the gas will drop below $3 after we recover from the storm's effect.

Umm, if they deliberately don't lower the prices after the effects of the storm just because they can, isn't that gouging? And isn't there some kind of law against that?

And quite frankly, WHY has it been increasing so much anyway in the past months? Is it really because supply has been low and demand has been high or is it because the oil companies are on some wacky trip and they're starting to feel their power in charging whatever the fvck they want.

Whitehouse spokesman just said that 21 ships are coming from Europe and the Middle East with 500,000 barrels of gasoline "EACH" on the way to the US as we speak. Gas futures are down $0.18 to $2.22 per gallon. Oil isn't the problem, it's refining capactiy at the moment (also delivery systems such as pipelines, etc).

National average jumped overnight to $2.87 per gallon. It's expected to easily top $3.00 this week. Adjusted for inflation, this will be the highest price recorded in history for gasoline.

Expect other prices to rise as the cost of energy is passed on to the consumer.

I think part of the problems of the rise in gas prices is that these oil companies are making huge profits over last year profits. let say they made 12 billion last year. there going want to see a higher profit this year. like 17 billion.

Well how come they never exercised this power before? I mean what's to stop them from suddenly charging $10/gallon. We'd still be forced to pay it, right? Not like there's an alternative.

It will suck for a while but it will force the US into renewable fuels. Look at Brazil their investment into ethonal is finally paying off. While the world suffers with outragious prices Brazil with prosper. America should have done the same 30 years ago...
