not everyone is lucky enough to live in/near a metro area with public trans or can ride a motorcycle or bike where they need to go.

You can thank the carelessness of many Americans who forgot all the lessons learned from the last gas crunch and went back to gas guzzling vehicles again so they don't have to look uncool in their Civic's, Corolla's or Focus's.
For the people who really need large vehicles for work you are excluded, but a 5'3" soccer mom's in an Expedition that gets 14 MPG out of that 5.4 liter motor of unused guzzling power, those short package white guys in their M5's and those masters of the bling in their Escalades with 24 inch spinners and 6 TV's in the headrests all running while no one is in the car EVER but the driver. Why didn't you learn the lesson? remember the Honda CVCC commercials?
I'm glad I grew up in the US and not another country of much less fortune, but at the same time I acknowledge that I get to also accept the mistakes SOME of my fellow bonehead Americans did and pay the price for their dumba$$ FAD vehicle purchases too.

be that as it may, it does not excuse gas pices doubling overnight. Lets say electricity prices doubled overnight...would you sh~!t your shorts? Well, how about it kept going up. About 10c a week. Oh right, and it wont go back down.....ever. Why don't you move closer to lightning or something...yea, that'll work!
