I paid $3.19 and they cut me off at $35.00. They wouldn't let anyone get more gas than that. Luckily it filled up my tank. (I was under half a tank when I gased up.) Now, they're shutting off stations.

We're in Northern Virginia.

Wow....supply is getting limited then. Honestly though.....I would lower prices in an emergency for the sake of being a nice guy...raising prices to make money based on demand in a time of crisis sucks.

In Birmingham, Alabama, I saw some gas stations charging 4.57 a gallon on Thursday afternoon. Today, in Huntsville, Alabama, its ranging from 3.24 for the generic stores all the way up to 3.47 for a few of the name brand stores. These prices are for regular.. I would never drive a car that requires premium.
I just hope people will stop freaking out and buying all the stores out so that the prices will start dropping or at least stable off.

I keep seeing more and more SUV'S riding around with there
windows down (AC off) to try to coax a few more mpg's out
of their dinosaur. It's hot as bejesus around here too (94)
average temp in this summer. As the late Jackie Gleason
would say...Har de har har har.............

The attendant at the Safeway gas station I went to today said to expect gas to go up to $4.25 per gallon. Fvck that.
But WTF is the reason? This is NOT due to supply and demand and THAT MUCH of a spike is NOT due to the hurricane, either. So it simply price gouging? And how is that legal? And why the FVCK does the government not give a sh!t.

The U.S. has always enjoyed chepaer prices than Europe. With many refineries close to home being shut down, we have to get our oil from other places. And also, it's because these refineries will be shut down for months. (according to washington post)

yup, even with 3.50, US is still amongst the CHEAPESTgas prices (of course, besides the middle east, where they own theirs).
with $4 a gallon, you are actually close to being what most of the other countries are paying in europe, india, etc.

And, as said many times, it's because most of those other nations tax the sh!t out of the gas. If the US had the same taxes as those places, we would "nearly" have double the price of what they have at this time!

That's because in europe in general they pay a lot of money on taxes on gas which is used for their welfare system and other stuff

Some asshat in Maryland tried to charge $5.99 for gas. The investigators were out there in no time taking pictures of the pumps showing the $5.99 price.

You're seeing all this from high atop your bicycle, right? Are you also yucking it up at every pickup truck, van, and some sports cars & luxury cars that you see as well? I think you need to take a trip to fueleconomy.gov and inform yourself. People that blame everything on SUVs are starting to sound very ignorant. If you pay a visit to the aforementioned site, you may notice that many other type vehicles get low mileage as well.

P.S. It's "their", not "there".

Many gas statons across town that actually have gas are sitting around $3.29 here in Memphis. The storm and shortage-enduced panic has caused many gas stations to run out of gas, and the site of plastic grocery sacks over pumps is more predominant than those with car at them filling up.

Did you pay with a credit card? That's the limit that a lot of stations authorize you for. Back when gas was cheap you weren't putting 35 gallons in a car, so it wasn't an issue. They just never upped the limit. Just run your card through again.

Or was there actually someone at the pump telling you no more?

It actually went down here in michigan. It was a 3.19 across the board and as high as 3.69, but our governor called up marathon, a chain of gas stations, to lower their prices. They did, to 2.99, and everyone else followed. About the first good thing I've seen our governor do.

And kudos to marathon gas stations. It shows great corporate responsibility.

3.09 to 3.19 for 87 in the extreme southern part of Illinois (Carbondale, Marion). Lots of smaller stations with plastic bags over their pumps. Bigger chain stations seem to have supply however.

Went to the gas station with the boy who paid 2.89 and then perhaps no later than two hours following that I went to fill up and had to pay 2.99 at the same gas station. fantastic.

gas in WNY is running about 3.68 for the cheap stuff. Funny thing is the oil they refine 30 miles from here is pulled from the oil fields in PA, so................... I just don't see how there is a supply problem here. OH yeah and they shut down the refinery yesterday for no apparent reason.
