Managed to get out today, and it was only $2.65. I was disappointed.

Since Sept 1st gas went from $.98 a litre to $1.34 a litre

that is $5.07 per US Gallon

that's 6.08 per Imperial Gallon

The 5.07 per American Gallon = $4.26 Per American Gallon in American Dollars. We were paying $3.12 per gallon just 4 days ago

The owner of several Sphinx stations near Greenville, SC said he's locking prices at $3.19 for all octane levels for the next week or so. He said he might need to increase it after that, but if prices drop and he makes a large profit, he said he will donate toward Katrina.

I make my own. Just find a farmer willing to sell you some of his cull corn crop, then you can have a welder make you a 300 gallon copper kettle, and set up a small still in the shed. In about 6 to 8 weeks you will have 300 gallons of pure ethanol. Just get another tank to transfer it into, and start the process over again. I even sell some to friends to cover a good portion of my costs.This is something Dick Cheney and Halliburton dont want you to know. I am placing myself in jeopardy by telling you this..

I think that most automobile engines canot run on pure ethonal, manufactures allow up to 10% of gasoline you put in your car to be ethanol but they are not tuned or designed for a streight ethanol or anything abouve 10% ethanol mixture.

Oh and jsut so people know you cannot distil that much ethanol without proper permits (i think ther is a limit as to how much one person can distil per year for private use, 100 galons or so for beer, i am not sure what it is for the hard stuff although people do distill more than allowed) and approved equiptment. Distilled ethanol is highly flamable and can be hazardous to your house if you manage to ignite by not setting up your equiptment properly. If you really want to save on gas buy a car with diesel engine and tune it down then get alternative light oils you can combust like cooking oils or properly mixed and refined low glycerol biodieel.

The folks where we evacuated to have an Exxon station. I am not there now but Ida still is.

She said they ran out of gas for the first time since the station opened decades ago Friday night. They got a delivery Saturday though.

I filled up today for the first time since the night before the hurricane. I paid $2.49 a gallon then and $3.29 a gallon today. The only kind of gas available was regular unleaded and I noticed similar availability signs at every gas station I passed on the way home. This is in the middle TN area.

Yes they are rationing. 10 gallons per vehicle.

Emergency vehicles have their own stations guarded.

Gas hit $2.99 a gallon here (northern TX) on Wednesday, and has held steady there since then. Went to the local super Walmart this morning, to get my weekly groceries, and they were sitting at $2.89/gallon.

For now, at least, it seems to have stabilized here. Sad to see how dependant we are on this "precious commodity", isn't it?

I'm just glad I drive a vehicle that gets around 28-33mpg. I cannot imagine what this must be like for people driving SUVs, trucks, vans, and V6+ cars.
