Dave and his trail of groupies have insisted for the past 6 months that gas was going to be at $5/gal soon.

AT P&N definition of soon would allow no more than 6 months more of such baloney.

He is always finding excuses and numbers to back up his claim that we were on the way up. Everytime the price rose; he would point the finger; Everytime prices dropped; he would deflect the blame and use his vast experience as a a barometer to justify why the rest of the country was wrong.

Now if you wish to tie yourself to his predictions/coattails, please do so. It is just a bigger target to shovel the scorn on.

His trend is showing wrong overall when speciifc fluctuations are taken into context.

Please dont make us go back ON THIS THREAD and quote every date he said it would be $5...the last being before Christmas, before that right after elections....Im sure eventually it will be, but certainly not as fast as he thinks it will.

And the trend lately has been down, not up. If we're to believe these "trends" are indicative of anything resembling reality we'd be more likely to see gas trend to free than to $5.

As has been said by the others, Dave has stated on in many posts in this very thread (and Oil thread) that by a certain time we would see prices at $5/gallon. The last time it was by Christmas. Quite obviously, we didn't see that.

If you want to talk about trends, well it has been down in the past week or so, and pretty much level for the Sept - Dec stretch. The prices on oil and gas traded in a range for the duration that was neither up nor down. Prices are down further today but with the return of bitter cold to the NE in the forecast, I'd expect to see those prices start to go back up again with the return of winter heating oil demand (the lack of which has caused this recent dip in price).

So we all know now that Dave is a quack. Sure, most of us have known for awhile, but here is the proof. Dave is nothing more than a fear monger.

I'm sure that gas prices will eventually hit $5/gallon, but that is like saying that there will be a blizzard in Florida. Sure, it will eventually happen, but not anytime soon. A prediction without a time is worthless.

Big Oil will keep the price up as they see fit, especially while oil men are in government.

So I guess big oil decided to lower the price of oil to a new recent low... right?

Despite all the drops in oil prices, prices at the pump have NOT dropped here since the elections. Still holding strong @ $2.30-2.35 / gallon up here in the sticks of Maryland.

Well you should blame your local retailers instead of insinuating that it's somehow Bush's fault. I've seen price drops of about 50 cents in the last few months, closely trailing the changes in the price of oil.

Crude also looks like it may break the $50 line today, which is good news for everyone but Dave.

Where did I blame Bush? I highly doubt Bush has any say in the price of fuel at the pump.

Nice try though

why even mention the elections in that case? By saying that prices haven't dropped since then you make it appear as if you are blaming his administration

Gas is down about a dime here lately...to about $2.50...

I saw in the local paper, that the Chevron refinery in Richmond, Ca had another fairly serious fire. Not sure if it was bad enough to curtail production or not...

Nope.. just using that as a reference point. Thats the truth; at least in this area. Of course that is not a representation of the whole country.
But, in this area, that time frame was the last time fuel prices dropped. They have held steady since..

Is it a coincedence? No.. probably not. This is a fuel thread, not a bash Bush thread, so I'll save those comments for other threads

Same here, the two big cities in Oklahoma, Tulsa and Oklahoma city have seen a drop in price to the point they are lowest in the Country right now but they are still holding the price around the $2 mark in the rest of the state.

The selective price gouging is very regional now.

LOL... there goes Dave again.

Prices in his state are now the lowest in the country, and most stations are around $2?

So basically according to you, prices have fallen about 40-50 cents since November... but apparently the price gouging continues...

Who's paying you to say this stuff, cause they aren't paying you enough, Mr. Shill

Edit: I also love the edit in the title... "Drive for five on hold for now" to "Drive for five on very temporary hold".

You really are clueless in life, aren't you?

My prices paid since 2006-08-07:

$3.12 - August
$3.09
$3.12 - September
$2.97
$2.74
$2.61
$2.49
$2.53
$2.47
$2.43
$2.53
$2.54
$2.57
$2.53

It was $2.51 last night.

Looking at the price chart, I was paying $3.12 when it was at its highest. For me the price was high in early August, then dropped, then went back up in early September while the national average was still dropping.

The weirdest thing? When fuel was the same average back in August 2005, I was paying $.50 less than the high average of 2006.
