I doubt we even see $4+ a gallon this summer. Just a wild prediction, though.

I think out west this summer $4.00+ could be a real possibility. Definitely $3.50. Factor in a natural disaster or another staged terra attack, look for even higher prices.

I don't know about that. A big part of the massive spike in 2006 was thanks to the energy bill and its ethanol mandate. While we'll still see it get up near $3.00, I doubt it will go much beyond that.

In other news the Department of Engery has said the recent frigid weather is "eating" into supplies.

So. as you've guessed: Oil prices back on the rise.

My prediction:

By Memorial Day.. averages at the pump will be $2.50 - 2.75
By Labor day.. over $3.00 - 3.25

supply and demand.

the last time the government interfered we had long lines and higher prices.

of course, since we cannot drill on our OWN land what right do we have to decry what we pay for the stuff?

As for the peak oil theorey, it gets shot full of holes each year. Now Niger is suspected of having oil reserves as large as the Saudis if not more.

we've been holding steady at $2.20 for a few weeks now.. I guess while a majority of you guys are "enjoying" sub $2.00 gasoline, our greedy stations haven't budged.

Isn't a quart of motor oil the same price today as it was back in 1980?

Hmm.. I guess the supply & demand garbage doesn't apply to Penzoil

Hmm....how much motor oil do you buy every week when you fill up your car and how much gas do you buy? I'm not sure how it is hard to see the difference between buying some motor oil once every 3 or 4 months when you get your oil changed and buying gallons of gasoline every week.

Link, proof?

If you're talking about the 1973 Oil Embargo that was not initiated by the U.S. Government.

they attempted price control. the also made it where your license plate decided when you could buy gas.

So, in your thread title, you changed it to say that gas is back to $3, but you are admitting that gas is only at $2.19.

Why is it that about once every couple of weeks you pop on here saying that gas is going back up to $2.19, or around that, but we don't see you on here when your gas goes down to $2.00?

your obviously not the one who would let facts get in his way.

The US tried price controls in 73 and they failed miserably. Who cares why they did it, they did and it failed. That was the OBVIOUS claim I made, your attempt to make it out as something else was pretty inane.

Jumped another 10 cents again yesterday.

They are now in the $2.30 range.

Do you have a substatiative reason for the increase?

Inventories of both oil and gasoline are still shown to be at 5 yr highs.

2-16-2007 3 injured in Texas Valero refinery blaze

SUNRAY, Texas - An explosion rocked a west Texas refinery Friday afternoon, injuring at least three people and sparking a blaze that sent a huge black cloud billowing into the sky.

Dumas Fire Chief Paul Jenkins said the Valero McKee Refinery, which has more than 400 workers, was evacuated following the blast. No fatalities were reported, and Valero Energy Corp. said all plant employees had been accounted for.

Valero, the largest refiner in North America, operates 17 refineries, 16 in North America and one in Aruba. The McKee refinery, located in Sunray, is one of six in Texas and has a capacity of 170,000 barrels per day.

So wait... you're saying that prices are almost 10-20% lower than they were months ago when you first made your phoney prediction?

By the way, still waiting for you to post the source of the "Drive for Five" name, which you claimed to have.
