Or, you know, right after the November elections. Shallow, ignorant GOP supporters, and apparently that's quite a few of them, will see lower gas prices and honestly believe that, while Bush had nothing to do with the grossly overpriced gas situation of the last 6 years, when it goes down a few dimes, it's all because of him.

Take a look at how the gas prices have been prior to every election for the past 15 years. Then blab about how the GOP is evil. There are tons of factors, but I will let you research it instead of taking your talking points from moveon.org.

OMG ITS UH KUNSPRICY.

Look at world events, demand and inflation while you are at it. Also, cost of salaries and adult toys

Adult toys were legal back then, now they are outlawwed and banned.

What world events?

You mean invading foriegn Countries to secure the Oil?

That should've brought prices down having more Oil.

Envrionemental laws require a different blend during the Summer. Your intrusive govt hard at work again. I dont know why you complain about it when you ask for it everyday.

But I really hope prices go back up . . . A LOT . . . preferably by taxes to be invested in fuel efficiency, mass transit, and tax credits to consumers buying more fuel efficient vehicles.

Awesome, gas prices are now below $3 per gallon. Too bad they were below $2 when Bush took office.
Remember when he criticized Clinton about gas being too expensive?

DING! DING! DING!

We have a winner!!!

If WE would quit buying large automobiles (Ford F150's, SUV's, Hummers) and start telling the car makers to better engineer thier products to avoid this AND as a collective society tell the oil companies and goverment we DEMAND renewable alternative fuel sources...we won't go through this again.

But since history is the best predictor of the future we are bound to repeat our foolish mistakes. Only next time we'll be paying $7-$8 a gallon

It's nice that we live in a free country where WE can decied what kind of car we want to buy and drive.

Question for all of you people saying that we should be driving little cars: how many of you have high power graphic cards, or extra cooling fans, or 500w power supplies? Based on your logic of small cars to save gas shouldn't we all be using nice cheap computers with built in graphic in order to save energy??

Question 2: how many of you are toting 2 kids around in your Prius or Civic hybrid?

Ummmm..... Let's see. I use a laptop primarily. It's power efficient because it MUST be. Built in graphics, sound, and all that crap.

#2... Wife drives a Kia Rio-Cinco, hauls 2 kids just fine AND the groceries, softball gear, band instruments, suitcases, etc... Oh yeah, did I mention that it gets ~35 MPG?

Nice try..

Doomsayers have always been like this. Lyndon LaRouche wrote the book on this tactic IIRC.
More to the issue, communists and fascists always need a scapegoat. It's a thinking process inherent to a system where they have willfully submited themselves to other peoples' authority. Hell, it's why they did it. Slaves don't have any responsibility.

And in related news, October oil futures are down today another $1.07 to settle at $69.19, unleaded gas down another $0.05 to settle at $1.73. Text
Most of the east coast has already seen price drops, looks like the west coast will have to wait until after this weekend.
Remember though, pointing out the easily proven historical fact that this is a normal seasonal cycle, and not a grand GOP conspiracy performed by the all-powerful scapegoat in the White House, is something that is only done by the evil rich Republicans...

I filled up with premium this morning for 2.74. As pathetic as that sounds it is off a high of 3.19 4 weeks ago.

Where are you located? I have a $100 bet with my boss right now that the price for regular gas at the station nearest the office will drop to $2.50/gal. or below by Sept 15. It's currently $2.85. I got a lot of laughs about it in the office when we made the bet on Wednesday, but then the price there fell 7 cents just yesterday.

Any takers on $2 or less by Christmas?

A little optimistic. There might be parts that will see ~$2.00, but most places i don't think will see below $2.40

I don't see it dropping below $2 ever again. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get close to $2 by Christmas though.

That's exactly what everyone said last summer yet I was paying $1.90 for gas last winter. Text

Yeah, except in 2006 you had the ethanol mandate thanks to the Energy Bill, which caused a huge spike in prices. More importantly, ethanol prices have spiked as well and is required in fuel now (10% ethanol blend). While it may get close to $2, that ethanol requirement will keep it slightly above, I believe.

Call me on if it happens though, so one of us can be smug

Paid $2.25 rolling though central Oklahoma on way home last night.

Of course the ConocoPhilips refinery was across the street

Ponca City Refinery

It looks like Wizard of Oz at night.

Here's history of the area that is only 2 hrs from my house:

Ponca City History and the Petroleum Industry

Ponca City´s history has been shaped for the most part by the ebb and flow of the petroleum industry. The Marland Oil Co., which once controlled approximately 10 percent of the world´s oil reserves, was founded by eventual Oklahoma governor and U.S. congressman E. W. Marland, who drilled his first successful oil well on land he leased from the Ponca Tribe of American Indians in 1910.

Marland´s luck and tenacity would fuel growth and wealth that were previously unimaginable on the Oklahoma prairie, and his company virtually built the city from the ground up. Decadent 1920s mansions -- including the famed Marland Mansion and Grand Home -- were built by Marland and his associates. Because of this period of wealth and affluence, Ponca City has an unusually high concentration of buildings that exemplify the popular Spanish revival architecture of the period, as well as art deco-influenced buildings and homes.

The so-called "Roaring 20s" would come to an end for Ponca City shortly before the Great Depression. After a takeover bid by J.P. Morgan Jr., son of famed financier J.P. Morgan, Marland Oil Co. eventually merged with Continental Oil Co. in the late 1920s and would be known as Conoco for more than 70 years. The company maintained its headquarters in Ponca City during this time and continued to grow into a global corporation.

During the oil boom years of the 1980s, Conoco was owned by the DuPont Corp., which took control of the company in 1981. After nearly two decades of ownership and an oil bust that crippled Oklahoma´s economy in the late 1980s, DuPont eventually sold off its Conoco assets in 1998. By 2002, Conoco had merged with Phillips Petroleum (interestingly, another major petroleum player with roots in northern Oklahoma) to become ConocoPhillips. ConocoPhillips is now one of the five largest oil companies in the world and maintains a significant presence in its historic home state.

Based in Houston, Texas, ConocoPhillips continues to operate one of the United States´ largest refineries in Ponca City, as well as offices at the former Phillips Petroleum corporate headquarters in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The company´s presence is much smaller than it once was, and Ponca City´s population has declined steadily since the early 1990s as a result. However, recent efforts to grow the city´s economy beyond the petroleum industry have landed a number of technology, manufacturing and service jobs.
