Compare it to a cheap 6800GS at 200. The 6800GS literally beats the X1600XT at all benchmarks.

oh wow.. a 12 pipeline card, with only a 128 bit mem interface, and 700 mhz ddr...

the 128 bit interface cripples this card to death....

about the only significant feature is SM 3.0 support... but, big whip..

Its worth saving your money and getting a better performing card.. hell even last generations X800GTO blows this card away..

I'd stay away from this one

This is a pretty disappointing card at any price above 100$ at this time. And I'm talking about x1600xt tested yesterday at extremetech. I'm now aware about " texture address units" and " ROPs" and "simultaneous threads on the shader-dispatch-processing unit" that I didn't care for before. It's clear that a card is not all about pixel shader and vertex shader or the speed and interface of the memory. I'm looking to learn more about this things.

It's not the RAM.

This card isnt worth getting for any price > $150. Most of the time it's on the same performance level as a 6600gt. IMO, what's crippling the card is it's 4 texture units, and the 128-bit bus - in that order. So in games that do not have a 3:1 shader/texture op ratio, this card becomes limited by it's 4 TMU's.

What are you talking about?

This product is considered a paper launch, because it was reviewed before the item was found in retail/e-tail channels. Compare this to the 7800 lineup, which is a hard launch because it was available for sale the day reviews appeared.

Let's re-tally the score, shall we?

ATI 0
Paper Launch 10,000

wow this sounds really close to what killed the GeforceFX series.. Did they have 4x2 style pipeline config, where when a game did not use that config and had something x1 (i think textures) it would only use 4 pipe and the 9700 had the 8x1 config which killed it.

Is this the same thing or close, and if so you would think ATI would have learned from Nvidia mistake.

I'm not an ATI fan but your comments are way off. Newegg has about 4-5 X1800XT's in stock. My local CompUSA had 5 of them on the shelf and you can easily find Crossfire X850 and Crossife motherboards at many e-tailers.

I'm not saying they aren't available NOW, I'm saying they were paper launched. The poster I quoted tallied up the paper launches to 0, and I was pointing out some cases to raise that count.
