Gates interested in buying Nintendo

The fact that Gates is still keen on acquiring Nintendo can be seen as a statement of his respect for the Japanese company, which remains the most profitable business in the games industry, but is unlikely to lead to any business deal - with the two companies, whose US headquarters are only a stones throw away from each other in Redmond, Washington, set to continue battling for second place in the current generation of console hardware.

I don't think it'll happen. The guy who's CEO of it right now just got his position like 2 or 3 years ago right?

Anyone know how reliable this source is?

And isn't it illegal in Japan for a company to be owned by an American or an American corporation? (I suppose owning shares would be okay, but is a controlling interest by foreigners illegal?)

Car companies do it all the time.

It's 20% ownership and it's hardly a controlling interest. Mazda on the other hand....

I read the subject as "Gates interested in buying a Nintendo"

Which would be great. You can put the geek in a suit, but a geek he shall forever remain.

Probably depends on how much he is offering.

Gotta remember that Nintendo is still a business.

Nintendo president said there would be no way he would ever sell to Microsoft a few years back...

I don't get what all you naysers are complaining about. Nintendo's software with Microsoft's Hardware would make for one killer system.

In terms of making better products, I think it'll help. The only problem is that you lose market-share due to all the anti-M$ fanboys.

<---- Has forgiven M$ ever since WinXP and Win2000.... I haven't had a BSOD in a looooong while.

As much as I like both companies, and the fact that it would let MS focus on the console aspect and Nintendo on kick ass first party games, that's a lil bit too much consolidation for my tastes. It'd certainly take the wind out of anything Sony could put out, but competition is always good.
