No, 2000 was the enhanced version of Windows NT kernel designed for workstation/server platform. ME was based on 95/98 code so it's completely different. XP is based on Windows 2000 code...so basically XP is as old as Windows NT itself. The World needs new kernel...something that occupies less memory and does more job but they simply couldn't do it. That's why they split new kernel and features into different OS's which became longhorn and blackcomb/viena/win7 etc.
Vista is the best OS for Desktop PC's- not XP. The most up to date version with good security, reliability and new features.
I feel sorry for all deluded vista haters.
