The fact that the supply of these refurbished monitors is constantly refreshing kinda points to the fact that something's bad about them, eh?

finally got mine today. looks pretty good. zero dead pixels. its model FPD1830. I have it on analog right now and can tell of ghosting (much more than the 1800FP) but I'm hoping it will improve when I go to DVI.

overall, glad I bought it.

its back. there is a $10 off coupon. which would make this about $392 shipped. not as good as before, but back in stock.

There is a 10% coupon to bring it down to about $360. Look in your 'fat wallet' to find it. Since Gateway is dealing with the warranties, anyone know what their policy is on dead pixels?

I got in on this deal back in March an the LCD was shipped for $362.95 - so far I can't complain about the Gateway and it had no dead pixels when arrived. However, DVI connection is a must. Looks crappy in Analog and text very blury.

To get the 10% discount search at FW for Overstock and then there is a long link, past that into your browser and that will automatically take the 10% once the item is placed into the cart.

I'm thinking of getting a second one now.

Guys, I just picked up two of these, one for myself and one for my wife. $399 shipped, comes with the DVI cables. The colors are vibrant, the text clear. Ghosting is very subtle but visible on shooters, non-existant on everything else. This is just a fantastic deal. I thought it would be another year before I'd get an 18" LCD with DVI for this price. I heartily recommend it.

are you playing first person shooters at work?

Have this LCD as well, and I enjoy it. But there are still better deals. I'd suggest searching for $$ off coupons for overstock.

after some very brief searching there is a $10 off coupon and you can get 4% back through ebates...so that brings this down to about $375.

try actually configuring the LCD...

on my dell 1800FP, i cant tell the difference between analog and dvi. all i gotta do is press the auto config button when its on analog. as tomshardware said about a year ago, the difference in the connections is quite small, the analog output is of very high quality (thats with gf3 ti200+)

If someone is looking for coupons for overstock you might be able to find some on the internet at dealofday dot something. Do a search for overstock.com and find a post dated 3/27 by hbubble. This will take you to some sort of "internet deals" forum. To save someone a little time, I located the post on page 14. The coupon I used has an expiration date of 6/30 and worked with no problem. It is an actual (not a coupon code) link to overstock, and I dont think you can go through ebates or anything else like that, but I did not try so I really dont know.

I also found this monitor on Pricewatch under 18" lcd's for $399 shipped, with a (supposedly) three year warranty from Gateway. It just so happens that the Gateway monitors are the first listed (therefore the cheapest). I have never heard of the website offering this 3 year warranty before, but it was one of the first listings - the second one I think. I was tempted to pass on the 10% at overstock and spend $40 more for the three year warranty, but not being sure of who these people were, I passed. Someone else was also selling these monitors with a one year Gateway warranty for $399 shipped. The monitor is also "recertified" at these sites. Decisions, decisions!

I hope this info helps someone who is interested in this deal, as overstock does have these monitors in stock and the 10% off link is working. If you decide to go for the one year or three year warranty deal for $399 I would be curious to know what someone actually received if they choose this option. I will probably eat my heart out if the three year warranty deal is legit.

I'm playing The Thing and UT2003 on this monitor. The ghosting is very subtle. My wife couldn't see it at all. The color presentation on this monitor is excellent. It blows away my Hitachi Supercan Elite CRT in every conceivable way except the very slight ghosting. I'm sure it isn't the absolute best LCD on the market today, and if you can find another 18" LCD with DVI for $399 shipped including DVI cables, jump on it. Otherwise, few will be disappointed with this display.

I just received this monitor yesterday, and I must say that I am very very impressed with all aspects of it. It is bright, clear and sharp. I have seen no ghosting whatsoever, and no dead pixels. I have played a number of games on it - some racing and fsp's - absolutely no ghosting that I could tell, but I am not a heavy gamer.

In fact, I think this monitor might be brand new - there was a slip of paper inside stating that this was a "replacement" monitor, that when you returned the original monitor to be sure you also return the accessory kit that came with it. So apparently, this is a new monitor sent to replace a problem monitor. The box did say, however, that the monitor was "refurbished" but I am wondering if it really is. The model # is 7004201 with FPD1830 stamped on the upper left hand corner of the monitor itself.

I highly recommend this monitor to anyone for any reason. I even got $14.40 from eBates that I wasnt expecting. Amazing deal for $348 and change, net.

See one of my recent posts above for the 10% off link that expires on 6/30 so its still good!

This deal is still on, so I have a question regarding LCDs --

My current setup consists of 2 computers with an IOGear KVM box in between. If I got this monitor, I would obviously want to use the DVI ports on my 2 computers. Since my KVM does not support DVI switching, I was thinking that I might be able to run a VGA from one computer and a DVI from the other. The question is then can I tell the monitor to use one signal or the other? How does that work?

I believe you can press a button on the LCD to change them over. haven't tried it yet though.

How much does it really matter though? I've read some reviews that folks get *slight* ghosting w/ 1st person shooters, while other claim nothing at all. It's tough to guage this one.

that's an accurate description.

I game quite a lot (fps, and other genres), and use this monitor. it does just fine.
