Hello all, I had a question. I am looking for a laptop for school and have about $500 to spend. My buddy recieved a Gateway 6020GZ laptop last week for his birthday and doesnt want it. He said he would sell it to me for $450, good deal or not? I havent been able to find many reviews on the system so any and all feedbacks will help me a lot. I know its a Celeron, but he's selling it for under $500, please help. Oh yeah, the unit is brand new and sealed in its box, he just opened it in front of me so we could see if it worked, and it did.

it retails for $699 so in fact you will be saving money. It's basically your call if you want to go with the Celeron M. Depends on what you want to do with the laptop, if all you are doing is word processing, internet, etc. then it will be fine. If you want a gaming laptop then you will have to spend some more money.

IMHO I would spend a bit more and go with a Turion & better graphics.

That's a sweet little deal.

Nice & slim, yet still a good 1280x768 resolution.

Celeron Ms aren't bad either for basic work.

It's no question nowadays that the Pentium M has more power than the Turion. So unless you are working with 64-bit apps in school, (highly unlikely), then just get a Pentium M notebook

Yeah he'll be fine with this for what he wants:

Intel® Celeron® M processor 360 with 400MHz frontside bus, 1MB L2 cache and 1.4GHz processor speed

This is a Celeron M not Pentium BTW. Like I said IMHO I have a thing for the Turion. A friend of mine just bought a Pentium M with the GeForce Go 6800 graphics and that thing is slick.

clock for clock a turion is about the same speed at a 533fsb pentium M, turion is just amd's new name for the 25 watt mobile athlon 64's

Its also no question that the Pentium M is MORE expensive than either the Celeron M or the Turion. Similarly configured Pentium M lappys will easily have a premium of around $200 or more.

It retails for $849.99. It's on sale for $699.99 right now. I bought one on sale that I'm trying to sell, but I would never let it go for $450 especially since it's only 1 month old. I'd rather keep it if I can't get what I want for it.
