Gateway MX 6121 Hinges

I've owned this laptop for 2 days, and just like the Emachines 6800 of two years ago that it looks so similar to, the hinges are cracked.

WTF?

Is there a recall on this thing already?

I have the Best Buy PSP but I'm not sure I should bother, it really is only cosmetic.

If you've only owned it for two days they will swap it out for you in store, don't let them say no.

And I've heard this about a lot of Gateway notebooks. Honestly while they are a great value for the money, the quality just isn't there...

yeah, after the gateway 600 series notebook, quality took a back seat.

It's just cosmetic so I don't intend to make them replace it in store.

I'll wait until I have some other problem and get both fixed at once under the PSP.

it is a known defect in that model, and best buy will repair it under the PSP. or since it is only 2 days old, get a new one.

Get it repaired now. In order to get your laptop replaced using BestBuy's PSP you need to have it sent in 3x before they will replace (I'm guessing that unless the cost of repair is too high like replacing the LCD they will just ship it out for repair which has been averaging about 3.5 weeks down time for me each time.) Mine needs one more repair and I'll finally be able to trade it in, so I'm kinda hoping something breaks soon.

Upon examining it in close light, it's not a crack at all. Just like the way it's shaped. Hard to explain. Everything is fine though.

I love Gateway/Emachines stuff. I don't see how the quality is less than any other major brand.

My Compaq laptop gave me hell with power plug issues.

It's not terrible, but I can tell you that their newer notebooks are not as durable as their older 600 series (I am talking about quality of cosmetics, not quality of electronics).

Really, all notebooks are good in terms of quality, but it is when you start abusing them you can tell which is truely good and which is merely ok. If you take care of your stuff, any company will do. If you treat your laptop like its nothing, then you better get a Think Pad or a Toughbook. I have always found Gateway in the middle of the pack because on every Gateway I have owned (3 of them) , the screen and the hinge has always been a constant problem. Atleast in the 600 series, they fixed it and offered a replacement that did not have the same problem.
