Do you really think you are smart enough to explain on behalf of Gateway? First of all, if us using the coupon code we got from the Internet is illegal, then why didn't they have the guts to clearly state that in the cancellation email? Second, I make a living on building e-commerce web sites, and if what you said is true and if you ask me, they've got an extremely lousy online order system that would take orders made with illegal coupon code!

Though many of you may think this deal was more "legitimate" than BestBuy fiasco, Gateway is using the same "online store" double standard BS to wiggle their way out of this deal. It's a lot easier for a store to make sweeping, indiscriminant cancellations when it feels there will be no consequences. Now, I hope more you can understand what Steve "Hypothermia" and the rest of us "cheap" people are trying to accomplish with the BestBuy fight.

Not being able to get my deal is not the point for me now. I knew they could delay the shipment to as late as mid-March, and was ready to wait even longer. I'm extremely pissed off by the fact that they simply canceled the order without any convincing reason, and without any warning forehand (except the 60-day thing, which apparently can't be applied in this case).

I finally got the dreaded email, and I ordered on the 28th. I would call up and see if I can get the Radeon 8500 at the discounted price, but that product seems to have disappeared as well.

well i got my cancellation email last nite also on my Geforce 4 4400. Sad cause that was the last component i needed to finish off my new system.
So yes i freaking hate Gayway, they have lost my business forever and they must pay for their screwup by being punished by the allmighty company destroying power of the angry consumer..... blah blah blah etc etc...............
ok then now that i got that out of my system, the only way i will feel better about the situation and will be able to move on with my life is to find another hot deal on a geforce 4 to make up for it.
any ideas folks?
even a luke warm deal would help ease the pain of my tortured, Geforce 4 depraved soul.

I have been taken on this deal also, as I ordered the Visiontek Geforce 4 TI4400. I received the email at 23:32 last nite. They did not offer another coupon, and did not give me the option to wait (as they specifically did in their first email stating 60 days from the order date). I think they just wanted our personal information, and did not ever intend to fill the coupon. After all, other sites that I have ordered from never asked to preregister before placing an order. We have been scammed, and it's not right. Just my 2 cents worth. Gateway sucks! :disgust:

Same story here. I replied with a rather nasty email. IMO, this is much worse than the BB fiasco. At least that was a mistake. There was no mistake here. They are stating that they cannot fulfill my order because they cannot get product from the manufacturer. I will be closely watch their inventory for the next couple of months to see if they stock these (or for that matter, any company's) GeForce4 Ti 4400 cards.

Gateway is cancelling orders on other stuff too like the Toshiba M81 and the 1.6A and whatever else we don't know about yet.
Read the whole thread before concluding that they only cancel orders on the GF4.

I just got off the phone with Gateway, not much help. The rep told me they wait 60 days on items that were previously in stock and then out of stock(backordered). Since this item was never in stock and they can't get a reliable date as to when they will be in stock, they canceled the orders. He did say I could use the $50 coupon again, I would just have to call and place the order.

Ok...I don't understand your point. Are you saying that we shouldn't think of this as them cancelling orders because of no stock but rather that they're cancelling them for a more sinister goal?

How about:

1. Cancelling orders because they are going to declare bankruptcy and don't want the liabilities
2. Cancelling orders because they don't want to honor the coupon
3. Cancelling orders because they just wanted our information to sell to spam mailers
4. Cancelling orders because they want to use the cards for their high end $3000 machines (which really aren't high end in the first place).
5. Cancelling orders because they want to make the world's largest multi-display computer using 1000 cards in parallel
6. Cancelling orders, but not cancelling credit card charges, hoping to give their Customer Service staff some exercise
7. Cancelling orders because they are working with ATI to undermine NVidia, after all you can get a Radeon 8500 for $200 or less
8. Cancelling orders because they're assholes.

Umm, NO, I'm trying to tell people to stop thinking that the REASON why Gateway cancel all the GF4 orders is because they couldn't get enough of these cards to fullfil.

The REASON is beyond that. They also cancel orders on the M-81 and the 1.6A too.

You know very well that tye amount of M-81 ordered was no where near the GF4.

How about the 1.6A ?? INGRAM MICRO had these in stock. And since they are the supplier of Gateway, why isn't Gateway fullfilling these orders ??

What I'm saying is Gateway is up to no good by canceling all these orders without a legitimate REASON.

Now if Gateway do indeed let us REUSE the $50 toward something else INSTOCK, I would be perfectly happy with that.

Everything you all have said so far points to Gateway going belly-up. Let's list the events so far:

- Gateway announces losing hundreds of millions of $ last year
- Gateway stock dropping like a rock
- Gateway says they never had the product in stock - indicating they couldn't cough up the $$ to purchase the product beforehand
- Other items on the site are disappearing, and not going to be ordered - indicating they can't buy product to sell on the site, no $$

The coupon may be part of it, but so far it looks like it'll be a matter of weeks (days?) before this store is history. If you own stock in Gateway now would probably be a good time to get out while the getting's good.

I think all your conspiracy theories about not wanting you to use the coupon are wrong, lots of people ordered other items w/ this coupon and had no issues. I ordered a P4 1.8A and paid $175 after the coupon, that's most likely below their cost, but they honored it and I received it the next day.

I placed an order, but later cancelled it, then I wanted the same order again so I called and they had no problem re-applying the coupon (the online system wouldn't let me do it again) and someone already stated they would let you use the coupon again.... so wait and see if they get it in and then call them if they do.

Not that adding my 2 cents will accomplish much here but my order was cancelled as well. I'll be calling them today if I can find the time to sit on hold.

In the email it says that their supply was depleted and they are unable to replenish their stock at this time...Did they ever have the Ti4400 in stock? I don't think so...

I didn't get in on this deal trying to "screw" the gateway store. My final price (had to pay tax) was around $254 I believe which is not that much lower than the lowest vendor listing on pricewatch.

sigh...Well at least since I have the Epox 8kha+ maybe now I'll sit it out for another month and see how Epox responds to the capacitor issue with the GF4s.

The capacitors on the Epox and the 4600 are in the same location, so you are unable to insert the card fully (safely).

I put a 4600 in my 8k7a system and it worked fine, the 8k7a doesn't have the capacitor in the same location as the 8kha+.

Cyrus is correct. If you head over to hardocp.com they have a little article and a bunch of news blurbs on it. Basically the Visiontek GF4 4600 (and most every other GF4 based on the nVidia reference design) is fine and within the AGP spec. *Some* of the Epox 8kha and 8kha+ boards (don't know about others ones) do not fall within spec because of a tall capacitor right near the AGP slot.

HardOCP mentioned that some users can fit the cards in while others can't, leading them to conclude that some batches of the Epox boards used out of spec capacitors there while others were maybe within spec.

I think the response they got from Epox was that they'd look into the issue and rectify it for affected users in some way...But so few people have gotten the GF4s yet that it hasn't blown up all over these forums yet.

Edit: Just saw on shopper.cnet.com that the Gateway store has a huge banner ad advertising tha the GF4 Ti4600 has arrived at the Gateway store...
