The following is a parody of the letter that was posted above.
Dear sucker,
Thank you for shopping at Gateway/NECX. Unfortunately, we screwed up, and offered to sell this item to you at a price that is below our cost. To add insult to injury, you used a good coupon, and while that coupon was available to the public, we would rather you had not done that. The responsibility has now been placed upon me by my supervisor to make this look like an inventory shortage or error, and if possible, blame this whole thing on our suppliers, rather than our inventory and pricing department. To that end, I have the following story to tell. Unfortunately, I took a truth pill this morning, and while it has mostly worn off, some of this may actually imply the truth of the situation, rather than what you recieved in the corrected e-mail after I came to my senses and decided to keep my job.
We would love to ship you this or any other $400 item for $50-$200, or some other ridicuously below-cost figure, but "gee-whiz", we simply ran out, and can't get any more. Just to shield ourselves from future liability from the overly litigious, we have also elected to stop carrying that item, will not be ordering anymore, and have removed it from our inventory system and website. If you don't like it, like we said, "gee-whiz", we can't get any more. Yes we know they are still commonly available on the open market, but like we said, we can't get any more. That is our story, and we're sticking to it.
As a result, we have cancelled your order, you rotten leach, and will not be shipping you jack. If you don't like it, refer to the above paragraph, and if you are thinking of suing, remember, that we will at least try to raise a weak impossibility argument, because (all together now), "gee-whiz, we can't get anymore" (that's right boys and girls). Any questions, please reply, and we will refer it to agent 44, who retired last year.
If you would like to replace your order, too bad. If, however, you would like to order one of the many things we do carry at full price (without that good coupon we have since cancelled, or that pricing error you took advantage of), be our guest. No, you are not getting anything for our screw up, or for the coupon we are not letting you use. REMEMBER, that was the beauty of calling this an inventory shortage. You don't get jack! HAHA.
If you have any questions, agent 44 will be happy to answer them.
Fark you, and have a nice day.
Sincerely,
Client Relations

I think most here will agree that it reflects how the letter affected many people. This did NOT come from Gateway or NECX, and is intended only as a parody of their letter. It is not intended to reflect the truth of any situation, or to imply in any way that anyone at NECX actually voiced these words or ideas. But, you have to wonder what WAS going through their minds when they wrote that other crap that they DID send. Do they think we are THAT stupid?
