I think there is serious merit to the fact that Gateway's SERIOUS financial woes have caused this. They might be getting DENIED the sale of the cards based on they extremely shaky state.

<< Hey mine still shows it as backordered
WOOOOOOOOOT!
>>

Mine still shows as backordered as well, ordered on 03/03 with a different coupon, however we'll see what happens. If it stays as backordered, maybe you guys would have a leg to stand on...seeing as that would be kinda dubious to cancel all orders for the card with a $50 coupon, but to leave any other. Just my 2 cents

They have also cancelled my order for a 19 inch Flat Black Viewsonic CRT monitor. Which I had ordered 2/23 for 220 after $50 coupon and free shipping.

The worst part is that I got an email saying that it was expected to be in stock on Feb 21. So I called their Helpdesk, they said it was not in stock and they were expecting a shipment on March 04.... March 05.. I get a cancellation email.... B@$t@rd$

VIEWSONIC
E90FB 19"(18).25MM BLACK Product not available:item canceled 1 $269.95 $269.95

Dang it, I need a 19 inch flat Black monitor.

Mine got cancelled too and my heart justr sank when I read the email. What a bunch of fu@king a@@holes. They realized they were losing so much money with that coupon that they decided to screw their customers.

Bad move...

Where can we get a 4400 now for a decent price?

I'm just going to go to Electronics Boutique on Friday and pick up a 4400. I'll pay 50 more or so, but I'll use my AMEX pricematch when some lower prices come out.

Nah, if you check on the order status, instead of saying backordered it'll say something like "item cancelled", or something along those lines.

This guy posted the following information:
Deal not dead - I just sent the following to all of the news / hardware sites :

Hey Guys, Some of you have heard about or reported about the recent GateWay Accessory Store cancellations on all Geforce 4 cards. I received the cancellation email last night around 8PM CST and immediately emailed my contact at VisionTek regarding Gateway's claims that product was no longer available. First thing this morning, my contact at VisionTek emailed me back telling me that there had to be a misunderstanding in regards to the situation and that it would be looked into / taken care of immediately.

This morning, I spoke with Pete from the Massachusetts Gateway Accessory Store call center and here's what he had to say. He initially told me again that VisionTek cancelled the orders and that the product was no longer available. After prying a bit more and telling him that I knew for a fact that the product was not "unavailable", he said that Gateway was not receiving reliable information from VisionTek and that the product ship dates kept getting pushed back. Then he said that Gateway just got sick of it and decided to cancel all orders. He did not have any information on why VisionTek was blamed though. He did confirm that the email was sent to all customers that pre-ordered and the numbers were in the thousands because of sites like ***CAN'T POST*** which advertised the amazing price of $234 after a $50 coupon and free shipping.

Well, I just spoke with a supervisor named Karen at the Gateway Accessory store and she told me that because of the backlash from online media sites and users who pre-ordered, backorders will be reinstated if the customer calls and makes that request. In other words, for customers to get their orders reinstated they MUST contact Gateway via the telephone and request it themselves. Karen verified that over verified 1,400 orders were processed for the Geforce 4 line of cards and that each and every person must call, this is not a automated process. She did state that despite the reinstatement of past orders on the Geforce 4 lineup, no further VisionTek Geforce 4 cards will be allowed to be ordered until Gateway feels confident that they can fulfill VisionTek Geforce 4 orders in the future by set dates instead of projected dates. Anyways, just thought I'd fill you guys in.

This is definitely good news for people like myself that actually ordered a VisionTek Geforce 4 card through Gateway. If you could credit us as your source, we'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Not sure if this is true but hopefully gateway is making good with the orders.

With that said should individuals who still see "backordered" call in anyways?

It looks like an Enron scenario all over again.

I too think it's a profit and loss issue. Maybe they didn't have the credit with the supplier to insure they got an adequate supply, or the cash to back it up. Maybe they just wanted to tie up the pre-orders for leverage to show how important they were in marketplace, so they could use that leverage to get a good deal on something else. Or maybe they just wanted to screw with us make life difficult, because obviously they didn't need the $260 from each of us thay pre-ordered.

It's now a matter of principal for me, no matter what their excuse is. I'll spend my money on a 4400 or 4600 somewhere else and write off Gateway as a bad debt.

guess some of you guys still don't get it, ALL orders with that coupon are cancelled if they are not shipped by now. ALL ORDERS Gayway don't intend to take a loss of $50 a pop, expecially all the coupons used added up to millions.

I just called and got my order reinstated. Waited on hold for 10 mins, then they did it, no questions asked. I got a new order #, though, so the queue is proably starting over.

The following is a parody of the letter that was posted above.

Dear sucker,

Thank you for shopping at Gateway/NECX. Unfortunately, we screwed up, and offered to sell this item to you at a price that is below our cost. To add insult to injury, you used a good coupon, and while that coupon was available to the public, we would rather you had not done that. The responsibility has now been placed upon me by my supervisor to make this look like an inventory shortage or error, and if possible, blame this whole thing on our suppliers, rather than our inventory and pricing department. To that end, I have the following story to tell. Unfortunately, I took a truth pill this morning, and while it has mostly worn off, some of this may actually imply the truth of the situation, rather than what you recieved in the corrected e-mail after I came to my senses and decided to keep my job.

We would love to ship you this or any other $400 item for $50-$200, or some other ridicuously below-cost figure, but "gee-whiz", we simply ran out, and can't get any more. Just to shield ourselves from future liability from the overly litigious, we have also elected to stop carrying that item, will not be ordering anymore, and have removed it from our inventory system and website. If you don't like it, like we said, "gee-whiz", we can't get any more. Yes we know they are still commonly available on the open market, but like we said, we can't get any more. That is our story, and we're sticking to it.

As a result, we have cancelled your order, you rotten leach, and will not be shipping you jack. If you don't like it, refer to the above paragraph, and if you are thinking of suing, remember, that we will at least try to raise a weak impossibility argument, because (all together now), "gee-whiz, we can't get anymore" (that's right boys and girls). Any questions, please reply, and we will refer it to agent 44, who retired last year.

If you would like to replace your order, too bad. If, however, you would like to order one of the many things we do carry at full price (without that good coupon we have since cancelled, or that pricing error you took advantage of), be our guest. No, you are not getting anything for our screw up, or for the coupon we are not letting you use. REMEMBER, that was the beauty of calling this an inventory shortage. You don't get jack! HAHA.

If you have any questions, agent 44 will be happy to answer them.

Fark you, and have a nice day.

Sincerely,
Client Relations
Gateway Accessory Store

I think most here will agree that it reflects how the letter affected many people. This did NOT come from Gateway or NECX, and is intended only as a parody of their letter. It is not intended to reflect the truth of any situation, or to imply in any way that anyone at NECX actually voiced these words or ideas. But, you have to wonder what WAS going through their minds when they wrote that other crap that they DID send. Do they think we are THAT stupid?

i just called too and got my order re-instated.

everything stays the same, including discount $50 voucher.

they had no idea on new ship date - i asked if it was likely to be days or weeks and she "thought" it would be towards the end of this month.

oh, they knocked off an extra $50 for making a mess of the order.

<F>

p.s. i lied about the second $50

So it's not every order with the $50 coupon getting cancelled (that wouldn't make much sense), just certain items. I still think their are fewer GF4's around than there are buyers. Might be a long wait, but good if you don't need it right now. I'd like to hear their explanation of why they couldn't get their hands on a couple hundred P4 1.6a's though. :| Some of the other canceled orders make no sense unless you assume the worst of them..

HEY FOOLZ! UofI is correct. It took like 15 or 20 mins on hold.
call 800/961-9261 client relations at gateway press #2

me - I said "I'm one of those customers who got their geforce4 video card cancelled and heard you can resubmit the order if we just called in."

polite server rep - "Yes sir what's your order # and your name"

me - "blah blah order # and name"

on hold for 2 mins
polite service rep - "Ok it's been resubmitted thanks for calling"

me - "So we just wait till you get the shipment from Visiontek"

polite service rep -"Yes"

me -"thanks..bye"

----
so just call them and they'll resubmit your order and wait a month or whatever. I just cancelled my amazon ordered for the 4600. Paying $256 is much cheaper than $375.

Whee, after 20 mins on hold mine is reinstated too, with the $50 discount as well.. now the wait begins to see which happens first.. Gateway getting it in stock or Newegg/Mwave getting an OEM one for the same price...

People who have had their orders cancelled should immediately call the customer service number and ask for their order to be reopened.

Replaced my order too.

I found the 800 number on the Gateway Accessory store site, called the number, waited for about 15 minutes, and I finally got to talk to a customer service rep. I merely said that my order got canceled, and he looked it up. When he saw that it was the GF4, he said, "The GeForce 4, huh?" Then he began reverifying my shipping information and asked me if I still wanted the product because they could reinstate my order and give me the $50 voucher. I didn't even ask him about any of that. Obviously he's done this already today. I said that I did, and he put me back on hold for 3-4 minutes. After that, he came back on and told me that it was all set. He also said, "You do know that we're not expecting this in until March 15th, right?" I said that I didn't know, but that it was fine. Then I hung up. Simple and mostly painless.
