Thanks for doing the legwork and bringing the info on this... I just called NECX and they assured me that they could place a new order and leave me backordered till the item comes in.

I just hope folks realize that it could easily be a month or longer before the orders get filled.

I just called in again (couldn't wait on hold long enough the first 2 times) and had about a 20 minute wait but the guy was nice and reinstated my order. He made sure that I realized that they have no idea at all when the cards will be coming in...

He said an email would be sent to me with my new order number.

I am glad that necx/Gateway is reinstating orders for those who call and I'm hoping it doesn't take them months to get them in.

I'm also hoping that by the time Gateway gets them in Epox et al will have figured out what to do about the 8kha+ boards conflicting with GF4 reference cards (like the Visionteks) and I'll know whether I have to cancel my order or not.

I just don't understand it... use coupon for GF4, Radeon 8500, P4 1.6A, etc... you get the same e-mail saying your order can't be fulfilled and was cancelled. The only way someone's going to call back and get it re-instated is to have seen posts like this on deal sites, screwing all consumers who aren't aware enough to be really pissed off about this happening.

My curiosity is if Visiontek threatened their supply chain for GF4 - you cancel orders for our product only and you won't get a damn one. I haven't seen anyone mention this "callback" thing with P4 1.6As, etc., which also seem to have been bitten by the same coupon bug.

Shouldn't they be sending out a follow up email to everyone they sent an e-mail to re: cancellation?

so clearly gateway == necxdirect, you can just consider them the same company, so arguably you could go into a nearby Gateway Country Store and argue with someone there about your NecxDirect aka Gateway ordering experience if you really wanted to yell at someone not via email/phone =)

Well, some customer service places are like that. I personal work CS, although it's for a much larger company than any of these I believe. We actually support like 13,000 vendors. We are open 24/7, and usual answer calls within about a minute or two of you calling. Pretty much I'm only writing this, is to not act like a prick to the person you talk to. If people are prickish to me, I'll generally brush them off more. Don't assume that it is the company's fault (although it certainly could be), just act plesant nice, tell them what the problem is, don't launch into a lot of crap, and you should be able to get whatever the representative can do for you. If they can't do what you want, ask politely to speak to a supervisor, normally they are more than willing to pass you on. And if you are polite about it, everyone wins. I guess in short, don't be pissy, act like a caring respectful person, becuase that is what the person on the other end is trying to treat you like.

naww... it could take an extra hour to do that, then they'd have to pay those agents overtime.

companies hate providing customer service... it's nothing but a money pit (as far as they are concerned).

nevermind the fact that many people won't do business with a company that has crappy service (Cisco gets away with it all the time, ever try getting technical support from them?).

no kidding. didn't gateway's new plan is to restucture the company? Dell is by far better than Gayway, Gayway don't look like they will be able to get out of their financial trouble ever, when they kept driving new customers away as well as old ones.

my order on 02/25/02, and got a shipping date for 03/05/02

and today they cancel my order, WFK is wrong with Gateway, that is "B.S."

This situation is so puzzling.

I mean Gateway honor all the coupons when the item were instock all the way until the Feb 28 deadline.
Then after Feb 28, any item that was back-ordered got CANCELED.

What would be a logical explaination on this ??
Did Gateway just realized that instead of losing more money by fullfiling all these backorders, lets just CANCEL them all.
I mean they pretty much cancel every single item that are not instock.

This is the only reason I can think of or they are about to go belly-up.

Weird, seems they are cancelling lots of stuff other than the 4600s?

I ordered a Rad8500 and Z560s with that 50 off coupon and they both came within days......

guess i was lucky or maybe the fact that i didnt rape them to bad ?

Same here guys, seems everybody got canceled. If that's the way Gateway works, It's the last time I spend a cent at Gateway!!!!!!!
