Gateway NV55S laptop & Wireless NIC

Hello,

I have a Gateway NV55S laptop and wanted to change out the wireless NIC for something with dual band.

I purchased an Intel Centrino N6205 and installed it in the laptop. When I went to power the laptop back on...nothing. The Power LED was lit but that's the extent of the activity. When I put the OEM Atheros NIC back in all was fine.

So what's the consensus here? Dead Intel NIC or is this a case of Gateway protecting it's own and not allowing unauthorized parts in their laptops.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I do not know about Gateway Laptops.

I have an HP Laptop, there is BIOS info on it that allows only few specific Models to work, any other Wireless card generates an Error massage at Boot.

Needless to say, HP sells the approved models for x8-10 more than their free market value.

I suspect Gateway has BIOS locked this one as well. Oh well, it's just for surfing and the occasional flash game for the wife, so I'm not going to worry about it. It's the OCD in me that can't handle knowing a have a desktop connecting at 450Mbps while this laptop scratches out 144Mbps which, in reality, is fine for it's role.
