I heard gateway has a crappy tech support in the sense they are not as open as Dell is in exchanging or replacing parts. So i would go with dell. They ahve great tech support. in fact, my friend called them once at around 3 am PST and there was someone there at dell headquarters to help us.

In addition, my friend, who bought a computer with them in 1998, has had his monitor replaced 3 times at no extra charge.

The wife just got a new Dell ,800mhz, 15 inch screen, 256mg Ram. It has a case like a suitcase with the extendable handle and wheels. she also has a port replicator so she can use it at work and home as well as use her monitor and keyboard.

The best thing though is her work paid for it

dude, digobick, the gateway 9300 has a 15.7" screen. i know you emphasized viewable, but the viewable area of the gateway's is still bigger.
