Just got my GW 700x deal. This machine is quiet like a sleeping cow.

will get my Dell 4400 tomorrow. Now I have 10 systems and 2 empty cases at home. anyone wants to trade?

Btw, what is in the small box? I accept the big box but refuse the small box. I was told by GW CSR that the small box contains the speakers which I did not order. I overcharged me for $1088.

Hey all the Dell deal guys! I can not contact Gregg and the $300 rebate ends tomorrow. I wonder why the reps (Brian and Gregg) are not available! Gregg sent me an email saying he could offer me the deal, but nothing after that. No call back or email!!

I hope the DELL guys did not give this deal once and run! I tried to get this Tuesday and Gregg said OK. When I called back early Wednesday to confirm he would not return my calls or email. Everyone who tries to help gets just so far and then goes away.

Both Brian and Gregg will no longer answer.

Anyone else try to get this before the DELL $300 rebate expires tonight?

I wonder how much luck I would have by contacting Gregg when/if he ever shows up again and asking for the $300 off the price!!???

Has anyone else out there actually gotten the DELL for $618?

I mean, here is how you can make lots more off this system...

If you ordered it a mon ago, and got the dell, and then price matched it to $900 from around $1500, now you can call, and since they have customer satifaction policies (return the difference if something changes in 30 days), they could still give you the rebate for $150 off the processor, and $300 mir possibly, do you think this will work? ($300 8200's???)

Syclone1 - That's a pretty kick ass deal you got for your friend esp since it qualifies for the $300 rebate. I'd say they owe you at least a dinner.

yea, but its a Gateway, I don't know about now, but a few years back they weren't highly regarded for their quality.

yeah, did anyone else get that $300 extra off??? I don't think it is in their best interest to do this, why do you think that the gateways are so much cheaper than the dells??? Because gateway just has a low price, dell has a higher price, but then offers the rebate to compensate, now if you get the best of both, then you are in luck, but I still don't see how the dells are $1500 while the GW's are $900, I calculated both stripped down, and they were within $150 range, and now since dell offers that $450 off processor and mir, I believe that GW should be price matching from Dell, then again, this post is pretty old, when it was written, Dell, didn't have these wonderful rebates, now how about my $350 8200 deal, do you all think it will work??????

I've still got an active quote that expires tomorrow on the GW system. Have had it in my cart no less than three times and gone through checkout all the way to the point of SUBMIT - then MADE myself stop each time. Tough one to pass up!!

Not true...there is a $150 rebate, but will DELL sell us the 2.2 for $918?

Looking for rep, who is actually in, who will !!

Quick question...

I work for a large Company that has an agreement with Gateway. I called the special number and the rep will let me have this for $869 DELIVERED.

I was just wondering, since the DELL deal seems to be long gone, if any of you who actually bought this Gateway, has...

A. Blown away the installed XP and installed your own (like XP Pro) and if that worked OK. Did Gateway give you the XP disk, and does the hard drive come with stuff you NEED to backup??

B. Has anyone ordered another 256MB of RDRAM (2 128MB pieces) from a 3rd party where it seems to only be about $35 a stick?

TIA, just trying to see just how good this deal is...I assume the MX400 video is better than the MX that DELL was giving, and the Gateway has 5 PCI's not 4.

Lastly, I assume the disk controller is an ATA100...the drive is, but they never quite tell you if the Controller is!

<< A) I didn't actually run it, but it looks like a restore disc, rather than a full XP Home disc.. I'll check it later.. The XP Pro install worked fine..

When you did the XP Pro, i assume you blew away the Gateway stuff and installed Pro clean? That would mean you did not need anything that Gateway installed. That would be great.

B) http://www.googlegear.com/ggweb/jsp/ProductList.jsp?ThirdCategoryCode=011107

Which chip...normal or -1...not sure of difference.

Yes, the controller is ATA/100.. It's integrated on the Intel motherboard..

Hope this helps..

Great, it is starting to look like $869 is not a bad deal as it IS a Northwood, I guess. Any word yet on just which Intel MoBo this is?

TIA

"Dude..I got a Gateway". I told them I did not need the Firewire ports and they confirmed that that card has been the reason for the delay...they are backordered. My quote was good thru today.

They asked for a FAX number to confirm, but it has been 2 hours and so far nothing has come through. How long does it take to get the confirmation?

If all goes as planned my "out the door" price is $829!!!

anyone who is trying to install clean Win XP will have to call tech support to get WinDVD software for DVD-ROM to work.

I did a clean install with the Gateway supplied disc. No problems. Never tried to reinstall WinDVD. Last XP update has screwed something up though. Whenever I try to shut down, computer spontaneously reboots.

Well, it now says something about order being released to manufacturing! Does this mean I got the quoted price?

Also, someone had said that windvd is on the apps disk...is that not correct?

I worked for Gateway until just recently so I can answer these.

1st: No, you don't get a full XP disk, you get a restore disk with the equivalent of the \win9x directory on the old Windows 9x CD's. This is all you need to install Windows XP. No large company gives the full XP disk anymore, you get a system restore. This is to slow down piracy if possible.

2nd: I'm pretty sure the Gateway video card is better. We usually had a better one when relating to the MX's

3rd: The disk controller (either a PCI card or integrated) is PC100.
