I lost! I had to pay the $140 monitor adjustment. The computer will be here in a few hours.....ugh. Oh well its a jump from my 450 k6-2. I talked to a sales guy and he told me that the managers are in meetings and think something is up . They think some one screwed with the quote and posted it for everyone to see....OH MY.... They are swamped with orders. Still a good PC.

sorry the monitor part of the deal didn't work out for you. You should know though that the managers knew about the 2 things that made this a deal: 1) the original $770 deduction to delete the monitor, and: 2) The 100 discount code.

Seems like they came up with a solution that partly satisfies the customer, but more important, lets them make some money on this thing.

They could have pulled the discount code, but that would have only saved them $100. By being hard asses on the monitor they save $140 instead of $100. Of course they could have pulled them both, but then the orders would have dried up.

If you have any written confirmation of the $918 price, like order confirmation, email, anything, put the amount they are billing you in dispute with your CC company. If you have anything saying $918 you have a good chance of prevailing.

If you don't have a personal quote, I would go to their site and enter the 378309 in Retrieve a Quote, add it to your cart to get the $100 coupon savings and it will come out $918. It will also say the quote is good till 2/26/02. Also, on the first page that comes up after you retrieve 378309, there is a button between add to cart and continue shopping called the SEND QUOTE BUTTON. Print that out and send it to your CC company with the print from 378309. The send quote shows that they are encouraging people to share the deal with anybody and everybody.

Keep us posted.

The same thing happened to me with the Monitor and at the end of the first conformation they do have a clause and I don't no if we can win a CC dispute with it. here it is:

Prices and specifications are subject to change without notice or obligation. (*) The listed shipping and handling charges are estimates. You will receive a contact e-mail within 24 hours with your actual total amount including shipping and handling and applicable taxes.

Of course you are correct that Gateway has that "we can change prices and specs" clause. Never the less, Credit Card companies are in the business of keeping their card holders satisfied. As far as kbrock is concerned, he has nothing to lose by putting it in dispute.

I just thought of another tactic to add to his argument. Individuals who ordered around the same time he did got the $770 deduction. A lot had to do with your sales rep. One crazy rep accused me of fraud for using a quote from someone else while their Send a Quote is designed to do just that!

If kbrock needs to know when people submitted their orders and got the $918, I, for one would be happy to try to help him.

My experiences with putting things in dispute have been overwhelmingly positive.

kbrock, if you don't have this in dispute yet call it in right away. They will take the charges off your bill till the dispute is resolved. It can take weeks for the dispute to be resolved, and in the mean time you get to keep the money in your pocket till the CC makes its decision.

I'm wondering if there's a way to use Amex Blue to PM this if they charge you more than $918. If you can show the CC peeps the same system quoted at less that what you had to pay??? Maybe there's a chance?

I don't think it matters about the clause in the confirmation. I believe they should have at least confirmed the change in price with customers first.

There is supposed to be an email, after the first, giving the exact price with S&H, tax. The last sentence in the order confirmation email reads: You will receive a contact e-mail within 24 hours with your actual total amount including shipping and handling and applicable taxes. Did anyone receive that email? I didn't.

Also, if the managers are really so concerned about the quotes, why do they still work? Wouldn't you disable them, until you had time to check them out? If someone 'tampered' with them, they would have had to hack into their system. I think some manager is trying to cover his arse, instead of admitting to a prcing error on taking off the monitor.

I have to get mine from UPS today, some of us have to work and can't sit home all day waiting for a PC (<--jealousy).

The only charge so far is a temporary hold for the $918 amount. I should call and see if I can get my credit line reduced to $950. Seriously, I think my CC card would look at the confirmation email and the temporary hold, and question why they upped the price without informing the customer, if they do. Also, I personally spoke to a member of their web sales team that confirmed the price, the day after I ordered. I have his name and extension to add to my arsenal, if necessary.

I have a pretty good feeling GateWay will do the right thing. Oh well, happy thoughts.

Gateway sux!!
I called back for the order I made two days ago cause I didn't receive any confirmation e-mail. And a guy told me that they won't honor the price for the monitor cause that an error, that is bullshit! What if I ordered the monitor when it is $700 and found out now it is only $600, can I ask for the credit back? It is not just the matter of the money, I won't do any business with the company that won't keep its promise. They can kill all these quote but should honor existing orders, even that lose money.

I will never, ever order anything from gateway!!!. I just heard there is a dell 4300S for $499 and 4400 for $649. Hey, "dude, I am getting a dell"

Everybody sucks when it comes to losing money. If it was a mistake, so be it. In the future, I imagine they'll be rethinking the policy of letting people "borrow" quotes.

just want to keep you guys updated:

if you haven't got this deal yet! TRY HARDER! you WILL regret if you don't take actions NOW!!!

i picked up the two packages from UPS on 13th, and took me only 20 minutes to set up everything including all my old peripherals (i got tons of stuff.) it was really FAST and 12 month AOL included, 6 months norton included. played a couple games on it! very smooth (i need a new monitor though.) burned a CD with 500mb takes about 3 minutes. decent software inclusion. ok keyboard and mouse.

i love the front and the back FIREWIRE port. two addition USB 2.0 ports are in the back

a question for those who has it now, when it boots up, does it flick three times before the image become stable? i thought it was from the computer, go figure that one.

i am glued to it now!

here is how you can still get one for $918 + Tax shipped

1. call up gateway 1-800-846-2036 x55493 ask for Poppy.
2. tell her mark refered you over and you would like to have the same systerm as i got (refer to quote number 378309, then aply $100 cupon)
3 she will take care of you really well!

i will give her a heads-up

GAYway is really not so bad if you talk nice to the CSR.

any questions PM me.

I put in 3 year warranty and i got my receipt and they put 1 year warranty and i am paying the same price as on my quote! My quote is/was my orginal quote! I also have a store quote for the same price, except it show taxes shipping and no coupon! I want the 3 year warranty! I have 2 quotes and a conformation email! Also i think according to the law they can't change orders meaning another thing i got in my case! What should i do! I already called this one guy said can't do nothing! They are in direct violation of the FTC....
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/buspubs/dotcom/index.html#IVI don't want to debate we can't do nothing! This other person said fax me the stuff and i will look into it, so now i will fax it Monday and hopefully get my 3 year warranty i asked for! Is there someone i should call again and talk to in Particular?

MarkieMark, I got my snail mail quote today from Sundays order. Everything on the quote and cc is as ordered. The envelope that the quote came in was hand addressed. Sure thought a machine would have done that. Did you get a cd copy of XP? I see there is a Gateway restore disk on the quote. I hope that is not in lieu of a hard cd of XP. Mine should be here Monday 2/18.

So anyone that ordered late on Sunday have heard anything yet?

I don't need the computer, but when I punch in my order number, it says invalid.

I received my computer today and it is amazingly better than my sputtering PII. If you still have a chance, grab one of these babies! Anyway, can anyone tell me about the sound card on this puppy? I have the logitech Z-560's and I'm wondering if the sound card has front and rear channel outputs (4 channels?) so I can hook up both the green and black plugs. Any help would be appreciated.

markiemark - Mine was flickering like that after the welcome screen. What I did was make sure my old monitor's (I didn't order one form GW) drivers were installed, the refresh rate was right for the screen size, and I also ran Nvidia's Detenator upgrade and used it's drivers (even though XP said they are not certified).

mmbond - As soon as I got mine I partioned and put XP Pro on. I lost my (what use to be liveware) software package. I went to Link and got a copy because the backup cds don't include the software only drivers for the card. If you still have the original config go to the Control Panel, AudioHq, Speaker, and you can set it to 4 speakers there. I recommend installing liveware 3 (even though it's discontinued) because it's nicer, has more options, and includes some extra EAX effects to play with.

Also the WinDVD software is not on the CD's just a .txt document saying enter the disk labeled WinDVD. Any one get a copy of that?

thanks kbrock. How can I tell which is front and which is rear? Does black correspond to black and green to green?

must sound stupid to most I guess...What's the difference between RDR &DDR Ram anyway? Does this not remind you of the Athlon 1700 XP Barebone system mentioned earlier for $199??? Granted, we'ed have to add our favorite cards, but...?
