Gatorade G Series... legit or not?

Has anyone tried the "Prime" in particular? I wouldn't mind trying out some supplements for taking before I run a 5k, and I'm curious on whether or not the Gatorade brand or some other brand would be highly beneficial.

it floods your system with high glycemic sugars for replenishing lost electrolytes lost DURING intense exercise.

so you get this huge sugar boost because you've depleted your glycogen reserves. but you should not be looking
to take this as a boost before youstart running. some complex carbs stored in advance would serve you much better.

The one with protein in it may be one of the worst things I've ever put in my mouth. Read the amazon reviews for it, they're hilarious.

Useless marketing hype crap targetted at the underarmour-wearing crowd.

One of the stupidest prevailing myths now pimped by Gatorade et al is this idea that people involved in moderate intensity sports are constantly under dire threat of glycemic depression and that without supplementation their "performance" will soon suffer.

They've even tricked many schools into replacing their soda machines with Gatorade, which is really every bit as bad for you as a bottle of coca cola anyway (and only marginally more effective at supporting intense exercise if you actually engage in it, for that matter).

... I wear underarmor, but I only drink gatorade when I'm engaged in intense physical activity like jogging for more than 10 minutes.

Whats wrong with UA? I haven't had Gatorade in years but I wear UA... Anyway I don't think they've tricked the schools maybe the parents who have more of an influence on what they're willing to give their kids money for. Anyone with a clue knows that Gatorade is just sugar water but it's awesome sugar water if you're actually working hard.

UA has some good products, I just hate their marketing blitz, feel free to ignore UA comments

It depends. I've seen their marketing campaign. Research has actually shown that eating anything significant in carbohydrate 10-15min before intense exercise can actually decrease performance due to the insulin spike. Most of the time, it's suggested that the last meal before competition is 2-4h beforehand. Gatorade may actually be decreasing endurance and performance in individuals participating in high intensity activities.

I am glad this topic was brought up. I was thinking about getting some of those products this weekend. Looks like I will be sticking to lemon water..

My dentist brother-in-law told me the gatorade/powerade type sports drinks are some of the absolute worst products for your teeth--lots of sugar of course, but also pretty acidic. If you drink 'em, it's not a bad idea to rinse it down with some water so it doesn't sit there corroding teeth.

Not as bad as soda, but yeah, they're not especially good for you.

Worse than soda on teeth, actually (along with energy drinks), if some studies are to be believed. And if not worse, most agree they're just as bad. Everyone seems to agree that lemonade is the absolute worst though .

Eh, I wouldn't believe them. Considering soda has phosphoric acid and carbonic acid, I would say it likely has a much lower pH than Gatorade, which consists of mainly electrolytes.

Some of their products offer great price-to-performance when compared to sport specific brands. E.G. I paid $20 each for UA compression rash guards after coupon. I have been wearing each 1-2 times a week for nogi and stand up stuff for a couple years, and they are holding up. The cheapest I was able to find grappling branded rash guards was over $40 at the time. Some were over $60.

My point? I am glad they advertise so heavily, because the GSP banner that was hanging in the store, is what made me think of them. Saved me a fair amount of money.

I wear UA products in the fall/winter underneath my soccer kit. Keeps me from getting nasty turf gashes on my arms when getting knocked down while in full sprint. Beat up the stuff pretty well and it's lasted.

As far as the G series. I have tried the liquid G1 right before activity as recommended. No noticeable difference and I hate drinking something out of a plastic bag with edges that can hurt. Haven't tried the bars yet, but I think it's all bunk.

Then you might be surprised. They have pretty similar pH:
pH levels of different drinks according to some dentist's site
kid's science fair project

Not trying to demonize the stuff, but the whole idea of "it's not as bad as soda" is exactly why I want to bring all this up.

I've got pretty thin enamel, and my teeth used to get very sensitive. You'd better believe gatorade/powerade was a big contributor to that over the years, because I drank them all the time for sports/working out. I still drink them sometimes, but I'm more sensible about it and don't let it sit on my teeth (same for other acidic stuff)...and I haven't had a problem in several years now. I haven't had sodas since the 8th grade.

I don't use the G1 or G3 products, and I only use the "during" products when I'm running distances longer than a half marathon (or a VERY difficult 10 miler). Under that I may take a SaltStick cap with some water or just stick to water.

And UA is a joke. Walk around walmart or a high school on any given day and you can spot dozens of fat non-athletes wearing the stuff while doing nothing remotely like exercise. How they can afford it I don't know, I can barely afford the Target C3 product line (which works great btw at half the cost). UA may have started out with the right intentions but it's now more like name brand athletic-like products. If I want high end performance wear I go with brands like TNF and Patagonia. All IMHO.

Seconded! I use the Champion stuff over UA simply because of price. It's a no brainer for me...works just the same.

For what I do, they are not high end, and they last, fit great, and are most importantly, comfortable.

I was not certain what you were talking about, so went to Target.com I see C9 Champion no C3? Anyways, I have a couple of Champion loose fit wicking T's and the seam in the armpit is uncomfortable after a bit. I will go check out their compression T's in store soon. The price@$17 is not bad if it is good quality and comfortable.

You are always a straight shooter so I'll have a look. Thanks.

C9 it is. I only got 3 hours of sleep last night after an 18 hour shift yesterday. I'm fried... Sorry for the confusion everyone.
