I had only found one or two gausians in the units I have looked at. In my last five units, I found one with 4 and then one with 5 gausians in the same unit. My scores were all under .3, so I'm not making the top 20 or anything like that, but it is cool to have them popping up.

A gausian "curve" is the effect you would "see" as a radio telescope
slewed across a source in the sky. As the source signal moved from the
edge of detectability (weakest) to centered (strongest) then tapering off
as the source moves off the dish. The gausian we see is due to the rotation
of our own planet. A good fit would indicate the source is "out there"
and not a plane or satelite, etc...

What MGallik said, only its spelled Gaussian , named after the mathematician (or was he an engineer?) who developed the underlying mathematical principles (mostly related to matrices). His theories are used heavily in the study of magnetic fields and matrix algebra.

We need a spell checker like SysOpt.

Spelling is Suck!

edit: Spelling, can you believe it!

Is that why I beat you to 100WUs, Michael? Your work units were too good?

Nah, a three year old playing Blues Clues is what slowed my W98 machine down. My wife had to turn the computer off yesterday to get her to go out and I lost about 24 hours (2 WU) of work before I noticed. She's playing it again right now, she loves that game .

I'm sure the gaussians slowed my WU down, but we're talking maybe an extra hour or so per unit. You beat me fair and square.

I had a string of about 60 work units without one gaussian and then I had those two big, fat ones. May 99th WU was just finished and it had 3 gaussians in it. The WU's are from may 7th and may 9th.

Have to say, with the new stats SETI has done... it sure is tempting to go back to running it. (Just want to beat /. in RC5 for now)

At least someone here is getting gaussians though, I checked through my last 10 wu's without seeing a one.
