The only depressing thing here is a pair of judges who basically said they were chicken to rule on constitutional matters and were punting the supreme court. I don't see this ruling as actually standing in the long term.

What does any of that have to do with marriage? Presumably in a marriage there will be less spread of disease.

Really? Don't guess you have seen these studies?

http://gawker.com/master-bedroom-extra-closet-the-truth-about-gay-marri-514348538

The Gay Couples Study out of San Francisco State University—which, in following over 500 gay couples over many years is the largest on-going study of its kind—has found that about half of all couples have sex with someone other than their partner, with their partner knowing.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_facto...mous_will_straight_couples_go_monogamish.html

an old study from the '80s that found that gay couples were extremely likely to have had sex outside their relationship—82 percent did.

Isn't the right answer that marriage is a church/social issue and really shouldn't be the business of the government at all? Why do married people enjoy benefits that single people do not?

Get government out of the bedroom completely.

Because child custody has to be a legal issue.

Idiotic. it would cause so much fucking trouble.

There is no way that the Government can be out of the bedroom 100%.

good that they ruled the way they did. NOW the US Supreme court has to make a decision on this. Only logical choice they have is to make it legal.

1. That doesn't say anything unless you are measuring against a control group. If half of all marriages have relationships with multiple people, but 80 percent of those outside of marriages have sex with multiple people, then marriage does have a big impact. So what's the control group numbers.

2. Doesn't really matter anyway as it is besides the point.

I'm not a fan of LGBT people in general (they seem odd to me) and don't like seeing it/hearing about it daily from news websites like www.cnn.com. But at some point the conservative side of me says there isn't a reason why these people shouldn't be allowed to be married. It does go against the freedom our founding fathers envisioned. I'd rather have that freedom there even if I don't particularly like it.

On the flip side, I hope liberals also feel the same way about gun rights, etc. Which of course is already in our constitution, so really it's not on the same peg of the totem pole, but I think the spirit of freedom should encompass all things.

I lean liberal, I was raised by lesbian mothers (which pretty much tells you how I feel about gay rights and same sex marriage), and I fully support the right of people to own guns. I'm a bit pissed off that the two major parties in this country disagree with me about one issue or the other, frankly.

My thoughts exactly. Let Churches decide who gets married and who doesn't. The Government would just recognize civil unions for tax purposes.

This is an opinion which literally no one in the country espoused until it became clear that gay marriage was going to become law. Then, all of a sudden, OH, WELL NO ONE SHOULD GET IT THEN... That's straight out of the "I'm taking my ball and going home" camp of legislation, popular with people whose argumentative tactics never graduated primary school.

Idiotic? And how is having government involved in personal relationships not idiotic?

As long as government sanctions marriage, it needs to allow any marriage one would choose, straight, gay, poly, whatever.

But why the hell does my relationship need the sanction of the state?

So homosexuals, representing approximately 1.5% of the population, account for 20% of HIV infections?

Please tell me that you really aren't as ignorant as you're presenting yourself to be with that statement.

For example, "Outside of Africa, injection drug use now accounts for 1 in 3 new HIV infections"

http://www.aidsinfonet.org/fact_sheets/view/154

It's not a 'homosexual disease' and never has been. Educate yourself.

Take some time to think about all of the various legal implications relating to marriage (or anything else that you might wish to label it) and see if you don't answer your own question.

All of which could be handled by boilerplate legal templates signed by any involved parties and notarized by any notary, without needing to get a license from the state.

Stop being such a simpleton.

Perhaps evasion is your first? Is a straight answer so difficult?

Silly question: "So homosexuals, representing approximately 1.5% of the population, account for 20% of HIV infections?"

Partial answer that provides a bit of pertinent information and an invitation for you to learn some more by exercising your mind: "Please tell me that you really aren't as ignorant as you're presenting yourself to be with that statement.

For example, "Outside of Africa, injection drug use now accounts for 1 in 3 new HIV infections"

Learn something or not, your choice.

...that is true.

Forgive me. Just had a kid and sleep deprivation effects have come on hard.
