Gays/Lesbians will cease to exist in 100 years?

not to start a flamewar but just sharing a thought.

My friend, who believes gays&les are born with homosexual genetics (nature than nurture), thinks that g&l will cease to exist eventually. His reasoning is that only recently society has opened its arm towards LGBT and those who lived in old times could not easily come out like they can today. Results were, LG people who felt they were LG, hid the facts and got married with heterosexual partner and had children.. thus passing their LG genes along. I know a friend whose uncle married a lesbian and had 6 kids, and 4 of them became lesbians..

anyways, so with the society now accepting LG people as they are, many get married with homosexual partners and do not have biological children, thus the genes do not get passed along..

whaddaya think? I thought it makes a pretty good hypothesis.

Not sure it works that way. It might, but as far as I know the exact cause is not yet known. One thing I have heard about is that it seems to occur in the womb, especially with women who have had many kids, the later Males have a higher chance of being Gay.

I've also thought of it that way.

But further in the future we go, the more gay parents will be accepted, and it'll be common to just use a sperm donor or surrogate mother, so genes get passed on anyway.

A lesbian couple get a sperm donor and have kids. A gay couple find a surrogate and have kids. There goes your stupid hypothesis.

Where to begin?
First off, pick your friends more carefully.
Second off, straight married men (many... most) are always going to have the need a good bj or rear pounding.
Third off, women of the future losing all interest in men are more likely.
Fourth, there exist in nature gay dogs and cats. Probably gay mosquitos as well.
That could preserve the "gay" gene and pass it to humans.
Fifth off, don't knock it till you've tried it, so I've been told.
Sixth, Jesus (a single man) ran around with 12 other single men. All apparently with no interest in women. Or none that was ever recorded. So maybe heterosexuality is the fluke of nature, and homosexuality was God's plan on how it was meant to be?
If Adam had not been so depressed in the garden of Eden, and God never had created woman, God surely would have developed a way for the single man, Adam, to reproduce without the need for women. After all, biblical speaking there is no such animal as woman. God made woman from the body of Adam, thus woman is a man, a reformed man (notice I was careful not to say deformed), so if woman was made from Adam, and Adam was as one in the beginning, then there is no such thing as heterosexuality. We're all gay, its just that Adam screwed it up for everyone else.
It gets pretty complicated from here....

It's a long time since I learnt anything about genetics, but this rang a bell:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/science/edexcel_pre_2011/genes/genesrev2.shtml

Human sexuality is a pretty complex topic. For example, what makes a straight guy be a leg/boobs/bum person? Bisexuality, BDSM, crossdressing (not referring to transgender), a whole tonne of fetishes... many aspects of human sexuality do not make the finding of an suitable partner easier. I don't think we're going to run out of diversity at any point soon because people are *more* accepting of diversity.

I doubt it man. There are animals that are gay. Google it if you don't believe me. You may be surprised.

You're grasping at straws.

As far as I know, God seen Adam was lonely so made him a partner. If God wanted Adam to be "gay" he do that. But he didn't now did he?

Woman are the opposite of men and counteract man in more ways than one, let me tell you. But together you get what nature had always intended: balance. I'm of the belief everything must have balance otherwise there is chaos. Just look at meteorology or physics as an example. It's everywhere in nature. You can apply it to damn near everything.

Considering humans have recorded history of homosexuality since 600 bc and was accepted in many places before at points in history what makes one think it will vanish all of a sudden just because it's been accepted once again in a small part of the world?

the only way I can see it happening is if we discover genes responsible and are able to do prenatal testing. I can see whackos choosing to abort

At the stage of science you speak of, by that time they can reverse the eval dreaded "gay gene."

Whackos = any given progressive who supports abortion on demand? They already support selective sex abortions any other justification you can think of, why would 'th3 gheys" gene be any different? Do you think feminists are suddenly going to gain a conscience when they find out its a LGBTQ in their womb?

OP, you need smarter friends, your 'friend' is an idiot, not to mention a homophobic bigot.

It really comes down to if it really is a gene thing or if it is simply a brain thing. Pretty sure they haven't proven that you are born that way genetically. I realize many like to claim that they are born that way, but it doesn't make it genetics.

I've heard that before, too. It even makes survival of the fittest sense if humans were originally alpha driven family groups. The first son born needs to be a potential alpha to take over the pack. Subsequent males, however, would be a source of conflict over reproductive rights, but you still want the strength of extra male children for pack security. The solution is to have subsequent males be gay so that they never feel the need to challenge the pack leader because they don't feel an urge to mate with the females.

One (of many) flaw in the logic of your friend is his thinking that "society" has become more accepting of LBGT people. This may be true in a small number of western countries, but it certainly isn't true for the majority of the world. Or North Carolina.

The gay gene is just a theory no one has ever been able to actually identify it or prove its existence. I think that being Gay or Lesbian or any of the other gender identities is far more complex than simple genetics.
