My Circuit City had at least ten there. Web site showed none but I called and they held one for me.

I think the problem with the game not loading is with sound card drivers. At least that was my issue. Oddly, I have two sound card drivers that I use when I have game problems. Oblivion did the same thing to me. With Oblivion and GoW I had to remove the manufacturer sound card driver and install a generic sound card driver. Then everything worked fine.

I, also, regret buying this game. It's not as fun as I thought it would be by a long shot. I'm holding out on a friend picking it up so we can do it via coop and maybe that will spice things up. It's OK, just not great for me.

The game's strength is in singleplayer and coop.

I think it has five extra levels. I thought I heard somebody say 8-12 hours of single player game play depending on difficulty.

This doesn't really refute my point...there will be a lot of scallywags downloading it, thanks to MS screwing over the MP base.

Your point isnt that strong.
There are TONS of multiplayer games out there. The MP community is not hurting in any way, shape, or form. And people who feel like pirating will always do so.
If they cant go public online with a hacked game and randomly generated key they will just do private games, but they will still play GoW.
I like it, and I'll buy it eventually and play the campaign and enjoy myself.

I can load up the editor though and launch the game levels through it.
Single player crashed with an error in the NT kernel.

Drivers, etc make no difference.
Only game right now that I cannot run, expect epic will address it soon enough.

Seems to be a common thing. I'm in the same boat and have seen several other posts around the web where people get crashes in the menus.

Is this with Vista or XP?

Xp sp2.
Its the only game I have played on my pc that wouldn't work.
Installed:
Medal of honor airborne demo
Call of duty 4
the witcher
crysis
Ut3 demo

all above work fine.

I ran it through win debug and its crashing on the NT kernel dll.

I can acutally get it to run up to the menus in game by using the debugger, but it won't let me continue any fiuther. It detects the debugger and tells me to close the debugger to play the game. There to stop multiplayer cheats I suppose. I could hide the debugger, etc , but I'm in no hurry, let epic sort it out.

the editor works fine though

Publisher guy 1: lolz! Halo 2 for PC!
Microsoft guy 1: I have an idea! lets make it Vista only! That way, we'll only be selling to the 8% of gamers that actually have Vista!
Microsoft guy 2: Brilliant! We'll make more money that way for sure! I'm not sure how, but I'm certain we will...
Publisher guy 1: lolz! lets not update the graphics either, it'll be cheaper for us to release that way. I mean, the PS2 is only 7 years old, a game designed to run on it should look awesome on a modern PC right?
Publisher guy 2: Yes yes, of course.

Game is released...
release day +1: Halo 2 (suposedly Vista only) is cracked to run on XP. Now the 92% of gamers who run WinXP are able to play! And many of them for free, since they just download it instead of buying it retail.

HAHAHAHA

The big problem with Gears of War is no dedicated servers. You have to sign up to Games for Windows Live just to host your own online games. That's the lamest thing I've seen in multiplayer in more than a decade. Microsoft is taking PC gaming backwards.

wtf :Q:Q:Q

someone better hack that crap ASAP. GFWLives or wtf it's called seriously just dropped to rock bottom. It was barely above, but now it's just a sham. One of the greatest things about PC gaming is the ability to host a (non) dedicated server, assuming you have enough bandwidth. WTF MS... WTF.....

edit: i'm still going to pick up the game for $40. certainly glad i'm not paying $60.

Good job i picked this up mainly for a co-op romp and a quick blast over with friends. Seriously though this move from MS is a bad one, more respect lost for them, if they have any left that is.

I just hope they don't get their hands on real PC game deals and dick up gaming even further.

They REMOVED the splitscreen options for the PC version. That pissed me off so much.

I understood that Epic (w/ MS' influence, of course) was focusing on making GoW "most" compatible on Vista. I don't quite get the business decision if it's true because imost PC gamers are rolling XP.

This is one of the first SP games I have enjoyed in a long long long time. I got a 30day free Live Gold in my copy of GOW, I am sure everyone else did as well. Who wants to coop ?

I'm having problems loading Gears of War. I have reinstalled and installed. I'm positive its not my computer, all other games are fine, brand new top of the line PC.

What happens is when I got to run the game it freezes on the initial load. when I ctrl alt del there is a splash screen program running and the game says not responding. any ideas?

Am I missing something?

I'm about an hour in, and the graphics are nice and all (although... after Crysis...), and it feels like I should be enjoying this. But I'm finding it a lot harder than I expected - between my teammates dieing and being flanked (god forbid somebody should cover me), I've died a good 15-20 times. It feels like the enemies take 10+ headshots before they go down - granted I'm using the default assault rifle, but still...

I want very badly to enjoy this game, but I'm having a hard time doing so right now.

disable all your startup programs and services (except Microsoft services) and try to run the game.

Then go by process of elimination to see what the problem is.

I found that ATI Tray Tools was causing an error at start up and disabling it allowed me to play with no errors.

Ok I will try this, but I am not using an ATI card, I am using an NVIDIA card so any other thoughts?

OK, now it refuses to hold onto my saved games (progress lost) - apparently a common issue. I'm done with this steaming pile of shit until it's patched -.-.

After playing COD4, Crysis, I don't know what the fuss was all about. I prefer Timeshift to this. More rewarding experiance.

Seriously. I'm about an hour in... if I can recover my saves... and I haven't really enjoyed any of it.
It's pretty in ways, but in others not at all - the lack of real time shadows really kills the engine to me compared to games like Crysis. It's frustratingly difficult for me at the 'medium' setting - I've never had a game do that to me at any level of difficulty.

Is there a way to install this game manually w/o the installer? It says it requires 7+gb free on the C drive and I just don't have that much. I partition my hard drives so C is mainly just for windows and I use my others for games. It's annoying that it isn't letting me install it because my C drive is too small.
