Well.....it's definitely an FPS.....as I wondered on page one. You move around in 3rd person but when you aim/shoot, it's first person. And after fiddling around an hour, I definitely suck on the easiest setting. It's gonna take some getting used to going from mouse aiming to joystick aiming (ackkkkkk!) Graphics, voicing, atmosphere is top notch. For the first time I thought this is what the 360 is all about as far as the visuals is concerned. No other 360 game I've played compares.

It's definitely a blast to play, I'm playing at the same level and getting my butt handed to me at regular intervals. Running around in 3rd person, shooting in 1st is a very nice combination. The controls are really easy, and as you said the atmosphere, voice, hell, there's even a good amount of tension in the game.

Alain Tascan, general manager for EA Montreal, has revealed that he thinks Xbox 360 title Gears of War has been overrated by reviewers - with one or two exceptions.

Speaking in a panel discussion at the Montréal Games Summit, Tascan said, "What is Gears of War? I mean Gears of War brings nothing in terms of innovation to the shooter... Like, zero.

"Only two very brave UK-based journalists said, 'You know what, Gears of War is a great game but it's like what Quake was a few years ago.

"Why are people loving it so much? It's like added production value, incredible cutscenes and the best ever graphics ever. I'm sure it's going to be a great success, I can't wait to play it, but let's face that graphics are still number one," Tascan continued.

He then used the comparison of a nice looking girl you might see in a bar and go up and talk to, "And if she's smart enough, that's the gameplay.

"I'm not talking about my tastes, I'm just saying, when you go to metacritic and you see a 96 for Gears of War, then you read the critics saying, 'Okay, storyline - there's none, gameplay is not innovative...' Then I say, why did they give this 96? They were blown away by the high quality of the graphics... Myself, I prefer something more creative," Tascan concluded.

Sort of the same thing alot of people said a few months after the first Halo came out. Gamespot came out and said "so maybe we ranked it a little high." But that doesn't stop it from appealing to the majority of people. My original thought before the game came out was that there just wasn't going to be enough to do in the game...just hide and shoot. But it looks like there's a good bit to the game as well. Graphics are not as important to me as a good playing game, but they are certainly the most delicious tasting icing on the cake I've seen!

(P.S...when's the last time EA put out a "9.6" game? He's probably a wee bit jealous)

I played it for 10 minutes and my girlfriend had to literally shut my 360 off on me. It's not 100% an FPS, but it does play like one. The camera angles and cutscenes are incredible, and I love the camera angle when you run - so realistic. Has anyone played it on Live yet? How is it?

I have an issue of getting disconnects when trying to join game lobbies. Once I am in, rock solid through out the various rounds.

Sounds like you and the GF need to have a heart to heart conversation

Although I think my fiancee would do the same thing to me.

I think it can be kind of awkward to go from a tried-and-true style shoot-'em-up FPS to Gears of War, but it overall is an interesting experience. I just think that playing it on my 19" LCD really doesn't do the game justice. It may be better if I was sitting closer like I used to when I played it on my PC's monitor (and I just sat in my PC chair like I was still on my PC). Maybe I need to buy an HDTV to go with this. The smaller set can make it kind of difficult to see where the people that're shooting at you are located and in turn add a bit of annoyance to the game.

I still need to try multiplayer though... I'm wondering if it will be a bit remniscient of my old Rainbox 6 days. Just won't be the same without ol' Ding.

For those of you looking to get an HDTV (without breaking your bank account) to play this on, Target's got a 32" (I believe the brand is...Olevia?) HDTV for $599 right now. Might be worth jumping on.

Yep. Supposed to be cheaper for Black Friday. Best Buy will have a Westinghouse 32" HDTV for $480 too.

Be careful of buying just any HDTV that is on sale. You get what you pay for and with HD stuff it could be all sorts of issues from input limitations to red push.

I have been playing multiplayer for the last hour or so and I must say it's very challenging and fun. However, Starting with the same weapons all the time gets a little boring. Does anyone feel like it takes forever to gun someone down? It's almost like you have to empty a clip or 2 per person just to get them down, then curb stomp or finish them off.

Im loving the LCD/Plasma price crash

Now that TIs DLP TVs are starting to show up, and cost half as much to make, the prices are finally getting fair.

I've been playing GoW on Hardcore co-op with a friend and we are a little bit into Act 4 and all i have to say is that this game rocks. It's not a standard FPS and the cover mechanics are amazing. I feel that this game actually uses cover and switching from cover to cover better than GRAW. It's much smoother. That and the graphics are amazing. Playing on an hdtv makes it that much better.

Oh and to all those that haven't gotten to act 4 yet, its gets substantially harder (across all difficulties) about 5seconds after you crash land. Cause those dudes that shoot exploding arrows + random shotgun totting drones = death unless ur carefull

So far, the game's great, but I've been having the hardest time joining MP matches. I get a 'connection to host lost' error in about 8/10 of every match I try to join. This only happens in GoW, and even though all the proper ports in my router are forwarded to the 360's IP and the NAT is open, still have the problem. Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Once you finish hardcore, start playing insane. Insane is a hell of a lot of fun! After beating hardcore, we started playing insane on coop, and it just takes the game to a whole new level. You have no choice but to stay in cover and the AI has much better aim and actually rush you, and fall back if you get close to killing them.
And those Theros guards (guys with the torque bows) are MUCH harder as well. Those guys just have crazy aim I cant say how many times I"ve peeked my head around a corner to fire, to only see a arrow lit up, and then boom, I'm dead.

great game :-d

here's a post from the xbox.com forums with a "fix" for the lost connection issue. I haven't tried it yet. Here's the link for what it's worth.

Text

1. Choose exactly what you want to do as far as versus, or co-op goes.

2. If versus, chose whether you want it to be ranked or not.

3. Choose "Custom Match".

4. Fill out the qeury with the information so it finds a game you intend to play in.

5. When it says "Searching..." or "Refreshing...", quickly hit the "X" button to refresh again.

6. Once the "X" button has been hit, a list of games will show up behind the "Searching..." or "Refreshing..." dialogue.

7. At this point you may choose from the list that has appeared behind the dialogue.

8. In most cases this has worked, if it doesn't you may have deeper problems.

Cool man, thanks . I googled a bit and found this a bit ago, I'll try it this afternoon.

I just noticed you can only have 1 saved game at a time. What's with that?? I play with my brother's 360 and now I'll have to wait until he finishes it so I can play the campaign, otherwise I'll overwrite his own game if I save. That's really lame! It's not like there's not enough space in the HDD for one measly save.

Even Zelda 1 on the NES had 3 save slots freaking 20 years ago! :|
