I would assume that if you have a GED it means you somehow fucked up in high school and had to go back and get a GED, so that = fail

I know a lot of people who have a GED because of things like homeschooling. Well not a lot but 4. All 4 of them are way more intelligent than the kids in my high school and took college courses while obtaining their GED.

I used to think like you but after that exposure, can't agree anymore, especially if I remember how much of a crock high school was for me.

And, I've had kids in class who had been home schooled for years but came back to school for the last couple years of high school. They were years behind in mathematics. Often good at writing though. Socially... meh, not that big a difference, but that's because we have a large number of children who are homeschooled together in this area & hang out together. Just within 1/4 mile of me, there must be 20 kids or more who are homeschooled. I really don't think the quality of their education is very good.

edit: but I've never seen a homeschooled kid who ranked up there with the top kids in school. Generally, math/science - lower half of students, english/history - middle to top (but definitely not at the very top.) Religious scripture, quoting specific verses, etc. - head of the class. If they all become preachers, they're way ahead of everyone else.

yeah, so its more (maybe, depending) like high school.

i went to AHS because i hated the religious school my parents sent me to....then again i also go to community college so you can take all of that however you like

GED = HS diploma. atleast thats how it supposed to be. however employers may see it differently.

i say as long as you went to college with the GED and actually received a degree, it won't matter much in the long run

I dropped out of high school in my sophmore year and later got my GED. Scored in the 96 percentile.

Never had anyone question the GED. It is as valid as a "regular" high school diploma, and SOME employers used to consider it BETTER because while most people just go to school as a part of life...it's expected of you... A person who gets a GED, may have had to leave school for one reason or another, but had the determination to go back and get the GED later.

When I first went to community college, I was nervous about "competing" with all the kids who had just graduated from high school.(I had been out of school for almost 40 years)

"Their knowledge was "fresh and current" while mine was old and outdated."

heh-heh. In EVERY class I took, if I wasn't the top of the class, I was in the top 4 or 5.

After 2-1/2 years and 80+units, (I changed majors after a year) my GPA was 3.98, but "dragged down" to a 3.94 because of a class I started to take 12 years earlier...but didn't get to finish because of my work schedule. (the instructor never dropped me and offered to let me take the final and grade me on that plus my earlier work. I ended up with a B for the class.)

For me, the decision whether to get the GED or take AHS would depend on the age of the person, where they are in their life, (work schedule, married, etc.) and how many units they'd need to get the diploma.
In the long run, neither one would be BETTER than the other...but they NEED to get one of them.

I was friends with several kids my age through K-12 education. Most of them were subpar compared to public education, but some of them were absolutely the brightest people I've ever met. It definitely depends on the quality of the person doing the home schooling. Two of those bright kids enrolled in high school at the beginning of what should have been their respective junior years, but the school ended up forcing them to immediately graduate (they tested out of the senior classes).
