Yes even a sandybridge will bottleneck in some games. Try F1 2010. That scaled right up to 4.8ghz after which I saw diminishing returns. Only increasing memory speed to 2133mhz added another 10% to petformance.

10% increase in performance going to 2133 memory? then why do reviews show basically zero improvement in games at settings most gamers use such as very high or even high at 1920x1080/1200?

I'm getting ~30FPS in the same spot. Weird thing is my GPU is running at ~70% and the CPU load is ~50% on all 4 cores. That's on a stock Q9450 (2.66GHz) and HD5850 @ 860 / 1125.

Sounds like you've basically got 2 cores pegged at 100% each and are CPU bottlenecked there.

go to 1920x1080 and that should almost even out especially with any AA. at least that's what I have gathered from looking at reviews before.

My monitor is 1680x1050 but I run with 4xAA. No way its even maxing out my 5850. I am only seeing 80% gpu usage max.

Use FOMM, that will solve start up crashing problem. There are plenty of mods that actually improve stability a little bit. I have the high res texture pack, 64-bit executable, script extender, and the first part of project nevada (adds sprinting and grenade hotkey), and fellout. I'll get a CTD maybe once every 2-3 hours.

whats odd is that it crashed all the time on my last pc. I put in 25 hours on this pc with no problems and then out of the blue the launcher starts going on a crashfest for the last few days. I might check out that stuff later but I am burned out on Fallout now so I am going to try and wrap up Red Faction Armageddon in the next couple days.

Sounds like that game truly sucks. I can understand if it looked decent...but thats not the case.
