Most people I know who have combo drives are burning -R disks because these are the most reasonable cost. Doesn't sound like -R fading away to me. I've only had my Pioneer 105 for a few months and I think it has already paid for itself. At the time, I got it for $150 after rebate. Sony combo drives were close to $300 at this time. So how did I spend the $150 difference, I got 150 blank DVD-R with cases! Are all these DVD-R disks I burned going to be obsolete just because +R "won" this war? No they won't. As long as blank -R disks are available for reasonable cost, my Pioneer 105 will be 100% usefull to me and still be every bit as compatible as it ever was. I think lots of the +R group have sour grapes because they struggle to find reasonably priced media. This could, and probably will, change in the near future, but right now it has to make them mad.As Pioneer bows to the inevitable with a drive that burns DVD+R/RW and the curtain starts to drop on the -R/RW format

What does this mean? Will playback support for DVD-R/RW disappear? Not likely. It's trivial to build into any future DVD player firmware. BUT it does mean that the price of DVD+R/RW media can be expected, very soon, to drop below that for DVD-R/RW media. I would expect that eventually, DVD+R/RW media will be MUCH cheaper than DVD-R/RW media, only because of economies of scale... If you like your A05, fine. I have an AO5 as well, and I'm happy with it. But so what? Kwad
