Geforce 1060

Hello guys i don't post much here. But i do have a question. Is it worth the money to upgrade to a 1060(3gb) from an R9 270? Since the prices on the 580 are completely out of control, is the 1060 my best path for a budget upgrade? I'm mostly looking to stay around the $250 range. I'm mostly into shooters and MMOs and Black Desert online is murdering my R9 270 that only has 1 GB of Vram.

Based upon Newegg's availability, I think you are going to have a hard time getting a 1060 for $250.

Its not worth buying any GPU right now due to extra high prices from mining craze.

The 1060 3gb should be only bought if under $200.

I can't recommend the 1060 3 GB for gaming; only the 6 GB. With the 6 GB being priced so high, it is hard to find any GPU right now.

I would focus on buying a used GPU right now. Used GTX 970's are a really good price and offer essentially the same gaming experience. Yeah the 970 only has 3.5 GB of VRAM, but it is selling for way less than 1060 3GB so I wouldn't mind.

If you really need one the FE is available for $300 from Nvidia directly as well as the 1070 for $400.

it looks like the lower end stuff like 1050 ti still have normal prices,
270 1GB (never heard of a 1GB 270 but OK) to a 1050 ti 4GB would be a decent upgrade given the severe limitation of gaming with 1GB in 2017

Hell just a month ago, the Geforce 1060 w/ 6GB of memory was only ~$250! Damn miners. Good thing I'm not in the market for a video card right now. Or having to build a completely new rig because my current one is old that I can't reuse any parts, like I had to four years ago. I would hate to have to settle for a low end GPU just because the mid-range let along the high end stuff is priced way out of this world.

I got a MSI Gaming X 1060 6gb model 3 weeks ago after rebate for $245..after not being able to get an RX580 due to the mining craze, and now the 1060s are affected. I'm actually considering selling my card for $100-150 profit based on current ebay bids for same/similar cards and using an old card in the meantime.

Damn. I also bought my 1060 6gb around two weeks ago too (lucky i guess) and now they are going for $350+. I was tempted to ebay too but then ill still need a vid card to buy anyway (which negates the profit). Too much hassle.

Does anyone recall prices of AMD GPUs after the bitcoin mining craze? I recall the same thing a few years ago (that AMD cards were flying off the shelf because of bitcoin mining) and everyone said they are going to be dumped cheap on ebay later.

Being not in the market for a GPU at the time I never really followed up. Were the post-mining craze AMD GPUs good deals on the used market?

Many of them are still being used even today for mining (eth and others). But yes you could find a 290(x) for like $200 on ebay for a while.

Yeah, I decided not worth the hassle. I was using my old HD5850 for two weeks waiting for RX580s to come back in stock. Surprisingly it worked well..just loud as hell trying to keep up with today's games that it could play (blizzard games, rocket league, CS GO, etc). I gave up when the MSI Gaming 6gb 1060 went on sale at Microcenter with rebate..then week later poof all the 1060s are off the shelves. I was actually considering selling my son's R9-380X 4 gb because of the mining craze and getting him a 1060 as well..but not now! Best we could do would be 1050ti so again not worth the hassle. So, as with most PC purchases get what you can get with the amount of money you have at the time and be happy and wait another couple years to upgrade LOL.
