Well I'm glad you think that way. Explain to me what ghosting is anyway? I don't see any visible problems with the 2d...

As far as the 3D goes...I'm getting ~65fps in HalfLife, settings maxed out at 1280x960. Not as high as it could be, but the proc. is clearly the problem. So after I upgrade I'll tell you.

Ghosting is when you see a shadow next to the images displayed on your screen, whether it's a line, a cursor, or part of a letter.

Usually ghosting occurs with darker lines on white or light backgrounds.

Read up on these threads:

Those three threads are among many that have something to do with ghosting issues with these GeForce II cards.

What resolution are you running it at, and what refresh rate? Those two variables make a huge difference when it comes to how visible the ghosting is on your screen.

You can look at your Display Properties. Click Advanced and then choose the Adapter and/or Monitor tabs. One of those will tell you.

What monitor are you running? If you're using a KDS or a Sony or something they generally tell you what the refresh you are running is, once you load up the OSD.

Konichiwa, at 1600x1200 you see ABSOLUTELY no ghosting? That's a new one - every person I've spoken with sees some ghosting, whether severe or not.

I WAS running at 60Hz and just changed it to 75. Saw NO ghosting then and see none now.

Prodigy^

Of course! What did you think this was?

Konichiwa:

Yeah, at 60hz and 75hz the ghosting is minimal. Try 85hz, which is nominal for 1600x1200 monitors. (Well, 21" ones anyway)

You can try reducing your resolution to 1280x1024 and run it at 85hz - you'll probably see ghosting. I tried two cards and both did this. What monitor are you running?

[edit:] By the way, thanks for running these tests for me.

I'm using a Gateway Sony VX900 monitor. I'll go down to 1280 real quick and make the refresh higher and see what I get.

I'm at 1280x1024 and 85Hz...see no ghosting. Maybe my eyes are bad )) or I don't know exactly what to look for, but there's no shadows around images or text.

Is that monitor an "older" one? Or is it one of the newer FD Trinitron ones?

This problem seems to be extremely detectable on FD Trinitron screens by all manufacturers. ick

Fenix793 just posted that he has bad ghosting at 1024x768. Unfortunately, it's not just me I wish this card would have been better, too, but for now I'm happy with my G400Max. I'll wait another cycle for new video cards to come out, hopefully with better 2D.

just wait for the NV20 at my door in October to crush ur little NV15.

hehe just kidding.

One question, is the heatsink properly attached to the GPU? Or did they do a half-@ss job with it?

I don't know, haven't looked at it. I haven't overclocked it yet because it's not going to do anything, considering I'm running on a 500MHz p3.

Just to keep in mind... The Herc 64Meg comes overclocked at 220/366...

I had problems myself at 220Mhz... and lowered it to 210...

Why not? Its allready Memory bottlenecked at 200Mhz.... If you look at the Anand overclocking guide you'll see that overclocking the GPU doesn't do much, it's overclocking the memory that helps...

Herc/Guill has an update Bios for the card which lowers the defaults to 200/333... Try that...

To get everything working, with no distortions, I'm running at 210/390 and it looks/runs great at 50-60 FPS with FSAA all the way up in 5.32 drivers...
