Geforce3 is now available to buy in stores in Japan!!! Just after few days of being officially announced, Geforce3 cards from MSI and ELSA hit the stores in Japan at a price of around $585.

Won't be long now. You gotta admit it, but if you had the money it's mighty tempting isn't it? The only reason for buying one straight away is for the kudos of having one. Sounds good enough to me...

"The only reason for buying one straight away is for the kudos of having one."

Exactly, and that is not a good enough reason. It will be a while before any games really take advantage of it. If you already got an Ultra, Radeon or GF2 you should not be in any hurry to upgrade.

BTW, a little off topic but why does Japan always get all the new stuff first? It's the same with most things. They always get it before we do. This is America, we want some cool stuff first you sons'a bitches! :disgust:

I jumped right on the GeForce256 bandwagon. I'm going to wait this one out and see what GeForce3 and possibly ATI's next product are all about.

Wail until Xbox comes out, the popularity of Xbox will do a great deal in determining the availability of games written for the GeForce 3 (Xbox GPU is only slightly modified NV20)

Slightly? 3D Prophet 3 -----> 31.25 million triangles/sec
X-Box with custom NV-20 -----> 150 million triangles/sec (100 million sustained)

I wouldn't call it slightly

Its funny, everyone is all exited about Geforce3's comming out, Is anyone acctuly stupid enough to buy one for the price they are at? I guess we will see. I think everyones gonna be mad when NV25 comes out in fall and they drop to $250-300. :Q

I've been baffled by that myself considering the PC market is the biggest in the US by far.

Most likely because it's the first major country to see the dawn of the new day. The U.S sees the new day last.

Hmmm. That's a very interesting answer BFG10K.

Could help that they have the worlds largest enthusiast market. Lets not forget mose compact. Its very easy to distribute in a country that small

Think of all the stories of these 'crazy' Japanese kids who where overclocking there systems well past a Ghz when us US folk where still toying with the idea of 800 MHz.

Why does it come out in Japan first?

Well if we users would support American products (LIKE 3DFX) then maybe we would get them first. Am I wrong or isnt Nvidia a Jap. company? Same with Sony, Nintendo, etc. Thank god for the X-Box.

Ah... but MSI and other Taiwanese companies put the video boards together. Still, you're point about physical proximity is a good one.

Also, Japan serves as a 'test ground' for new products. The number of enthusiasts there is probably less due to a lower population. Thus, it is easier to ship products in acceptable volumes.

How about someone volunteering to fly to Japan and pick us up a load. The plane ticket would probably be cheaper than the card.
