GeForce 3 - Cheaper than first thought!

According to a post on NVChips-fr, ELSA has dropped down the prices on its GeForce3 based card. Now it appears about $150 cheaper, and it proves the info we got during CeBIT about GeForce3 based cards being launched at a lower cost than they were initially claimed. So, GeForce3 will hardly be more expensive than GeForce2 Ultra at launch. It should cost around $400. However, the shipments haven?t yet been started.

It's not the kyro. I dont' think the kyro is a threat to nvidia. I think the price drop is due to the delay in the Geforce 3 release and the drop in price of all geforce 2's.

As I understand it,no games will utilize the new features of the GF-3 for another 8 months or so.Why not find a deal on a GF-2 or Radeon,upgrade and use that to play the games you have now or new games coming out in the next 7 months.Then get a GF-3 at a rock bottom price because the next and greatest GF-4 or Radeon 3 will be coming out.Repeat cycle.

Well if the rumors are true, Guillimont and Creative are both refusing to make GF3 boards and both are planning on making Kyro II boards. Your telling me that has not effect on nvidia? Get a clue man, Nvidia is scared of ANY competition.

nVidia are experiencing the slowdown that the CPU market did a while ago. the extra power is needed by very few people. so people are apathetic about the GF3. I think we all know the GF3 is going to be around a long while... the product cycle will slow now.

Hmmm? Ive seen some benches with FSAA showing the KyroII keeping up with the GF2 Ultra at high resolutions. This with beta hardware and drivers!

The thing about the kyroII is that it will drop in price after a short while. Low priced KyroII is what nVidia is trying to diss. I am starting to feel that nVidia are afraid of the effect this card will have on the sales of their mainstream parts

I think what you are seeing by some card manufacturers is basic economy 101...Some graphic card makers have found that the high-end market for 300 plus cards is slim pickings and probably going to be less in the near future as econmy softens...By picking KyroII boards they are saying we want great perfromance but do not want to price ourselves in an ever shrinking market...the market for 100-200 cards is exploding lately, and they have postioned themselves well...Why only produce GF3 cards at a whopping 400-575 (depending on reports) and sell a small amount (makes mass production damn uselss) when you can sell loads of them in the lower price range...oems now use many gf2 mx cards in their machines this helps them price themselves into those markets as well...400 dollars cards do not!!!

Creative and GUillemot are just trying not to be the next tragedies in the graphic cards market...note: I though creative announced they were getting out of this market altogether!! HMMM? Maybe they saw a ray of hope of profitability with the KyroII card.

Phuz, read the reviews (ie like this frekkin site)...it stay on par with the gts about the whole way, beating it quite a bit and even topping the ulta a few times...lowly gF2 mx are holding up the &quot;rear&quot;. So your comment though vague is lame....

Guess you never bothered to read anand's review of the Kyro II did you? Maybe if you had and had looked at the benchmarks you would have noticed that for 1/2 the price of GF3 or GF2 Ultra you can get a card that performs within 5% (higher and lower). Kinda scary to think that for half the $$ you can get the same performance.

Yeah, I've seen the BM's too.......if they are at least close to realistic KyroII *could* be a nice card to grab! What remains to be seen is the compatability in real life everyday systems and exactly how driver support will be!

If ya read the anand review again it will show ya that only applications when ran at real high resolurion will even have any effect with the geforce3 cards.. most games wont even benifit from using this new card, might even be a tad slower! ugh

Save two paychecks and pick this sucker up. Even though it isn't 400, if it ends up being 500, I'll still pick the card up. Simple as that.

well of course, its not brute force that makes this card powerful. Only new games will look amazing on the card.. older cards won't be able to touch it once that happens.
