MS sells the xbox below what it costs to make it. They accept the loss, because they'll make tons of money off the software and licenses for the xbox. Sony does it with the sony playstation2 also.

So does that mean it will have 8 pipes with 2 textures or 4 pipes with 4 textures?

Doesn't matter, nVidia's 2D quality problem is low quality RFI filters, the Radeon and G4x0 only have a 350 as well and they do quite nicely. Hell my V3-2k only has a 300Mhz and it blows nVidia's 2D away at least the nVidia cards I've seen (Creative TNT, Hercules TNT2, Asus GeForce256DDR)

My point is for 700 out of pocket i put together a nice system. Perhaps not the fastest but i definatly can do more than with a rediculously priced video adapter.

This is so similar to the V5-6k it's not even funny. Remember the price for the V56k? Everyone was screaming that $600 was incredible for a video card, when the GF2 Ultra only cost $500. At least people realize this is still an insane price for a video card. Nvidia only upped the stakes by $99 (must have been inflation in three months or something). One can only hope ATI pulls out something incredible.

The only way it might be worth $600 is if performance was so intense that it put off the next cpu upgrade for 6 months or so. Thing is there really aren't any demanding games out right now. Doom 3 may tax current hardware and only an nv20 can &quot;do it justice&quot; but where is Doom 3? Where's the beef?

The last card that came out and was completely heads and tails above the others (and stayed there for more than 6 months) was the Voodoo 2 based cards. My V2 stayed in my computer for almost 18 months (admitedly, it wasn't being used nearly as much toward the end of it's life in my compter). No other card has came close to this, not even the original GeForce (I STILL think that name sucks!). If I recall, the V2 was a terribly expensive card when it came out. $299. If they think I'm shelling out $700 for a video card, they are f$*#ing crazy!

I don't think it will stay @ $700 for very long. I have my doubts it will cost that much anyway. Who the hell would buy it? After its out for a couple months it should drop to $400-$500 or so, which is still too much for a video card IMHO.
