Geforce 3 pricing

I was looking around on price watch today and something odd to me. Store are still selling the Geforce2 Ultra for 99 + s/h and along the same note the Geforce3 TI500 for 199 + s/h. Why would anyone in their right mind buy these cards when the G4's are very close in price and beat them by a pretty wide margin? As a store owner aren't you basically screwed if you still have these in stock? Now I am not a business ed major so I may be missing something here so if I am please let me know.

I saw a 2nd hand (possibly even 3rd hand) GF2 32mb GTS for £99 no box, i feel sorry for the sucker who buys it.

Usually retail has higher prices than online since they've already bought it and its sitting on the shelf, while online you don't normally keep large amounts of, if any, stock therefore they are not affected by any price drops as they can send stuff to you as you order it.

the GF3 Ti500 looks quite cheap if you're stating £199, i still see the boxes in shops with £279 price tags, LOL

Well those are the lowest prices in the US. I know that you poor souls in the UK pay higher prices.

I would choose the Geforce4 since it's not really all that much more.
But, to some that extra few dollars might be extra ram or it just can't be sqeezed into the budget.

Ok I can understand that going with a G3 over a G4, but why are people still selling/buying the G2 Ultra?

Because they still have em in stock and they still produce fast graphics.

I bought a Geforce 3 (standard) instead of a Geforce 4, for several reasons:

1. The 4600 and 4400 are out of my price range.
2. The 4200 isn't out yet.
3. I keep seeing reviews that indicate the Geforce 4 Ti series all need top of the line CPU's to see the benefit over a Geforce 3, and I don't plan to upgrade from my 1.2 T-bird for a while.
4. I kept my Voodoo5 this long because I wasn't playing games that justified an upgrade. When I bought Jedi Outcast, I needed a better card for the eye candy, and I was ready to make the move.
5. The Geforce 3 was calling out to me on the shelf for $150, whereas the $300 and $400 for the 4400 and 4600 wasn't nearly as difficult to resist.

I don't mind being just behind the curve.

I bought the "plain jane" GF3 for many of the same reasons, PNY card at Best Buy for $150. The GF3 is a solid card at a good price. They were selling the GF3 Ti500 for $330 on "clearance". I too don't mind being a gereration behind.

Well here in Sweden you can still see a few Asus GF3 Ti500 for U$ 450-500, while the GF4 Ti4400 are rarely above $400. That's with 25% tax included.

25% ??!!??!! Holy chit, you should fly to the US, buy the card here for $140 and then fly back ... it will probly be cheaper in the long run

Actually, of those games, the only one you really "need" a GF4 for is Aquanox. I haven't been seeing a whole lot of buzz about Aquanox, so there is definitely a place for the GF3s of the world below $200 now, and below $150 when the Ti4200 comes out.
