GeForce 4 reviewed at CHIP Online (in german)

Be it just a GF3 with an additional vertex&pixel shader pipes and a couple of other minor features, but damn, the performance is IMPRESSIVE!

benchmark on the 12th page...

to sum it up...the higher resolution it gets...the more apparent lead the gf4 has...

definitly the higher resolutions is where the speed is at. what about picture quality?

guess it's exactly what would be expected: better performance. Now six months until the geforce 4 ultra/pro/titanium/tungsten/whatever and another little boost to performance and then finally a geforce 5 with some new features

Heh K900, don't pop a gasget. You will probably not be able to eat anything but KD for a few months, but it is possible to buy. I hope you can wait that long.

What I want to know is what is this about a TI1000 that I heard about weeks ago and now there's a TI4600 as well as a TI4400? The only thing that has stayed the same has been the MX flavors that I heard about.. but it's all hearsay until I see a pcb or a box in the store.

Bah, translations suck. It looks like RGAA has finally been added along with Quinqunux <sp>. Betting the future on GDR (assuming GDR means QDR) memory as well (ah how I miss 3dfx), chip.de says 645 euros for the G4 4600. That's mucho dinero for a card that's gonna have almost no impact on any game on the market or going to be on the market in a year.

It seems translators have a ways to go.

<< Nvidia attacks and shoots with full broadside: Equivalent six new GeForce4-Modelle are to move the balance of power, which ATI had brought with the Radeon badly in the wanken, by right. Ob's succeeds, shows our detailed test. >>

I agree with Rahvin, although this will be the fastest card available, the only time you will significantly see a difference in current games is when you turn aa on. Too bad they didn't do any Unreal 2 engine benchmarks, although I suppose that the Aquamark is a good benchmark to how this card will perform in future directx8 games.

What a silly review. First off, they used stone-age era drivers for the 8500 but the latest Detonator's for the GeForce 4. Secondly, why did they choose to only use Evolva, Aquamark, and Quake III? Couldn't they have used a few games that are a little more relevant?

I just can't wait for them to come out so I can watch the prices of the Ti-500s fall and then replace my GF2

Well, the "new" ATI drivers supposedly correct the "poor rendering bug" so if anything, the benchies should go a little down for the 8500 w/ newest drivers...not go up.

Isn't Evolva for OpenGL, Aquamark for DX8, and QuakeIII for QUAKEIII...the engines of all engines--of course it's going bye-bye very soon but whatever.

<< which ATI had brought with the Radeon badly in the wanken >>

Well they used "Ati" and "wanken" in the same sentence which makes sense.

I'd be curious to see some Dino Demo benchs, too.

Do you guys not play any NEW games? Are you still playing Quake (original)? MoH is a B!TCH of a games and I can DEFINITELY use A LOT more power. I have a GF2 Pro running at about Ultra speeds and at 1280x1024x32 with everything cranked up, the snow level kicks my system's ass!! And I wouldn't EVEN try using any kind of AA. I was going to get a GF3 TI500 but since the GF4 is so close, I'll just get one of those.

You can never have too much power.

More power and features are NEVER wasted. Even if the argument is raised that not many games take advantages of all the features. Fact is, with a more powerful card you cna up your resolutions, increaae your speed, slap on full AA and the improvement is instantaneous. I am running a P4 2ghz with a GF3 and when you play games or demos like Aquanox or the Sidrail TC for Q3A you can see where the features really enhance the game.

Also when DOOM is released later this year maybe we will all be lining up for a GF4 or even a GF5 in the droves. That game will use EVERYTHING these cards can do..trust Mr Carmack on that point.

According to the review, the AccuView AA should produce a more accurate AA than the Geforce 3's multisampling. I guess we'll have to see when more reviews come out.

Am I the only one who is not that impressed? I mean the performance is good, but not great. The only place it shines is with AA and at 1600x1200. Maybe I'm hard to please, but I expected more. I'll wait for Anand's review to get a better picture of GF4's performance. Looks like R300 has a chance...

If you want additional wonderful features, you'll have to wait for the next Dirext X, then nVidia and ATi will make their cards accordingly. Microsoft controls the innovation of 3D videocards now (not all, but a very big factor). But then, I'm still waiting for games that support Direct 8 features after more than a year of release.
