At this point I don't know. If I feel like unloading it and finding another $200 around Xmas, I'd gladly replace it with an XT PE, just out of spite.

Sell it to meeeeee!!!! At a significant price cut that is. I mean, it's defective with the Video Processor not functioning and all, right? I'll give you 175.00 for the card. Probably all its worth because the VP is inoperative.

Why would you want mine and you already have one? Also, if you're going to pick the price I sell it to you for, why not go all the way? Something like $50 maybe.

Harbinger, I meant no offense, only to say I'll reserve judgement for now.

I don't know that I have a working processor, I do have a less powerful system than you and seem to have less cpu utilization.

Perhaps I'm not testing it right? I have the video running in a big window and the system monitor graph up from the control panel, watching the graph and numbers.

If I'm testing incorrectly, enlighten me and I'll try it on my GT and my NU. (I'm more used to benching games than WMV ;-) )

I played the larger "Striker" file, cpu utilization mainly stayed between 60-75%, with some peaks above and below of course.

I have a GT and a NU and would also be happy to try the Video Processor. Tell me what to do rather than me reading through 9 pages of posts.

Re-reading post 1, since it is not abundantly clear, it is the 1080p sample of Step Into Liquid. IGE2 can almost play the 720p one.

Using WMP10 you can right click on the title bar View>Statistics to see if you drop frames.

Xbitlabs just published this article over the weekend. I don't know how I missed it, but here's a brief answer to some of the questions regarding to the PCI Express flavor of the NV40:

While NVIDIA now says HD WMV acceleration is only supported by the GeForce 6600-series graphics processing units, X-bit labs has found that at least on some drivers the HDTV acceleration works on the GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express graphics cards. AGP flavour of the GeForce 6800 GT did not provide HDTV hardware decoding on the same driver version.

My 6800 OC is going back to tonight. I'm buying a slightly used X800 Pro from the FS/FT forum now. It's been real guys. I'll sign any petition or send any email that will help the cause in the future.

I don't think your video processor is working. That's because I don't believe *anyone* with a 6800 right now has a working video processor, because I think they all have a hardware flaw.

So if it were working what should my cpu usage be??

Maybe anything under 100% means it is working?
However, you never know if it is just partially working.

Try playing the video with either no video drivers installed, old drivers, or a non 6 Series card. Compare before and after and you should have your answer.

I've just got off the phone with BFG techsupport 5 minutes ago.
The rep says nVidia is fixing it right now, and the issue should be resolved by the next official driver release at the end of November.

According to Xbitlabs, you should get about 20 - 30% CPU usage if it is working.

I revised the first post. Thanks for the feedback. Hope it's "abundantly clear".

I've just tested the Step into Liquid 1080p video.
CPU utilization hovers between 74% to 91%.

on a 9700pro:

I finally ran the trailer too at 1080. cpu usage is between 30-50%. It runs smooth as silk. neither the gpu or cpu heatsink got hot so I opened up Alexander while Step was playing and then my gpu sink got really hot and cpu usage jumped to 70-100% and both videos got choppy. My cpu sink got just a little warmer.

I have a P4 so I think my hyperthreading is messing up my cpu usage values. Because my gpu got hot, I think there is some hardware acceleration going on even though my video card doesn't support WMV9 (I don't think).

I think there is something else going on people's systems that run the video choppy. May not be 6800 related even though I think its clear that the video processor is somewhat borked.

anyway, my 2 cents since I was expecting WMV9 to bring my system to its knees.

Your PVP clearly isn't functioning as it should. Also, Thanks for sharing the feedback from BFG with us, that is at least the 4th source I have seen that stated it will be fixed through drivers and software updates so I'm prepared to wait and give them the opportunity to make good on it. Better late than never says I

Meh, I'd rather not be jerked around by NV through a second product cycle. I've just returned from BB where I returned my 6800 OC. I regret that it had to work out like this but aside from NF2 I'm having rough luck with NV these days. I have little patience for them now.

As promised, I asked my buddy at nVidia about this again.

He said the 6800 hardware can do the decoding, if MS would update WMP10. Said there was nothing else to tell, that an update to WMP would resolve this.

So I guess one of two things is going to be the case:
1. MS will release an updated MP that will allow the 6800 to offload
2. The media encoders will be an angry bunch

Time will tell.

Guys, your not going to believe this, but, I ran Step Into Liquid 1080 like you said. Using 66.81's.
I had task manager open and temp monitor on my 6800 open. CPU was pegged near 90 to 95%. But heres the weird thing. My 6800 temps went from 59C (just before I started SIL) DOWN to 52C and stayed there until I closed Windows media player. W....T.....F.....

keysplayr2003, your CPU is doing all the work. Your vid card is just passing it onto your monitor.
