I also have this card and just got a replacement for a defective one. I'll run the test tonight and see if they corrected the manufacturing defect in later 6800GTs or if it was, instead, a design flaw.

As for the driver fix, I am more inclined to believe it will fix the PVP functionality to a certain degree. It would be interesting to see if there are newer batches of the 6800s doing much better than the first wave of the 6800 series.

If thats case which i asked Nvidia peep, but he just said 6800 is soon to be replaced as every 6months new products, i will demand new GPU, mines is like 2 weeks old, i took 5months of hunting and waiting to get Chaintech 6800 Ultra. :-(. now its near time to be replaced, but it may only be pci E avail and im not ready for 64bit NF4 mobos yet.

BTW. My CPU utilization on SIL was 80-94% with an Athlon64 2800+ 1GB 6800GT. Frames looked to be about 5 or so per second as it wasn't glossy smooth, though it only paused once.

Why in the world, would NV need to do that... if the information from Rollo's "friend" about the PVP hardware in the AGP 6800 cards were fully functional in hardware, and only needed software to be enabled. Also, interesting to note, that when the word started getting about about the IBM 75GXP drives, IBM added an additional spec to their technical spec pages, that the drive was only intended to be used for something like 36 power-on hours per month, something totally rediculous.

I guess NV is just following the playbook from IBM on the 75GXP, about how to avoid taking responsibility for a product with problems.

IBMs spec change was 8 hours of heavy use per day for the deathstars.
