I have a 6800 Ultra with no problems at all.
I build and work on PC's as a second income.

I haven't had a problem with any of the 6800's I've installed either.
I would suggest a clean install and the newest chipset drivers from your vendor.
For GT users make sure you haven't installed a PCI device in the slot next to your video card, THIS DOESN'T WORK, the devices will share the same IRQ and cause
difficulties and random reboots.

Removing a RAM stick from your computer will not corrupt your OS installation unless:

1. the remaining stick is bad
2. You took out the ram while the computer was on.

Send your 6800 to me. I'll make it work.

keysplayr it apparently did. im not stupid to pull out ram while its on.... and my stick are fine.

it may have been something got corrupted before the stick was out.

well on another note, now that ive installed xp again. i havent installed any apps or anything yet just my drivers and installed 3dmark03, 3dmakr05. im using 66.51 drivers and so far ive ran 3dmark03/05 about 5 times each im not having freezes.
Although this isnt due to a fresh install of xp because ive tried fresh installs of xp before 4 times even on diff hdd's. but i have a strong feeling after installing my games and doing more tests the freeze will come back.

bigwayne give this a go > reinstall xp on another hdd or if u dnt have one spare just reinstall over an axisting xp installation without formating, then dont install any apps or anything just basic tools u need and your drivers and use 66.51 then try some of your games and/or 3dmark03/05 and tell me if your getting less issues or none at all.

even if now my card is working fine, still shouldnt have to go thru all this mess just to get a card to work, im expecting nvidia to get off there asses by now and do something or atleast tell us there is a problem and there onto it!

hey guys im back.....im still having these problemssss , i have jsut put the card into my other pc which is a 2400+, 640mb Ram, 400watt Thermaltake Power Supply, and ive been running like bout 50 runs so far of a couple of the intense becnhmarks in 3dmark03 and 05 which 3/5 time froze on my new pc but havent had any freezes yet on this machine....

i guess i feel a lil happier that maybe i have a good 6800 ultra card, but now im left tryna figure out what the hellll is wrong with my new pc! and what component in my new pc is causing this freeze, im thinking PSU which im gonna test soon, but it shouldnt be my PSU coz its a OCZ 520W Powerstream (one of best u can buy). Please! any suggestions to try or any ideas as what mite be the problem please post.. Thankyou!

Just a guess, cause I didn't see anybody else mention it, do you need to load AGP (gart?) on that motherboard? I have seen other cards act like that if the AGP drivers are not loaded.

Like I said just a guess. I am not familiar with that MB, but my GT is running great.

Runing WinXP w/SP2???

Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Settings(Startup & Recovery) -> Edit -> change the string "/noexecute=OptIn" to "/noexecute=AlwaysOff"

This is merely editing the boot.ini file to turn of Data Execution Prevention that is built-in to SP2. I was getting a BSOD after installing Zone Alarm on an SP2 system. Also, I could be in a game, hit the Windows key to switch to the desktop, and then get a BSOD when trying to reenter the game. Even my uncle had a problem with SP2 when trying to install Symantec Firewall- BSOD. Turning of that Data Execution crap worked great in all three cases.

yeh ive already tried AGP Gart driver and also tried without it installed, ive also tried SP1 and SP2. still freezing even on my other pc, although i think with 61.77 drivers it seems to freeze less and for 15-25 secs only and then comes outa the freeze and resumes but still the problems there. Thnx for your replies.

RE: Nvidia 6800 Ultra freezing during game play.

I?ve been having the same problem, but found a fix for my system *FINALLY*

On the MSI K8N Neo2, there is a special slot for a NIC. I had my system working without freezing up until I started playing with 64 Bit Windows. 64 Bit Windows wouldn?t see my NIC, so I moved the PCI Nic card, and even experimented with a 64 bit NIC (that didn?t work either). This is when I started experiencing game freeze. Man, I tried everything! Then, this morning, I pulled my system out to check the seating of everything, and moved my NIC back to the origional slot. Game play resumed as before! Who would have thought!

Evga nVidia 6800 GeForce Ultra 256MB

hi there AssyrianKing
i have the same video card and i have the same problems, i have tried all kind of solutions but with no luck, what i want to say is that i don't think that the card is actually broken, it's a small chance to have so many broken cards out there, mine is also Asus .... as for the solutions, i am waiting for god to say something regarding my 6800, cause' i don't see any other solutions ...

damn, i was with ATI until now, no problems, but i was stupid to belive that nVidia can actually do a good product.

if i will find any solutions, i will let you know.

My system:
==============
Intel P4 3 Ghz 800FSB
P4C800 E Deluxe
2x512 Kingston HyperX DDR 466 (at 400 / by SPD)
V9999 UltraDeluxe (6800 ultra)
Audigy2
1 x 36GB WesternDigital Raptor
1 x 250GB Maxtor
1 x DVD-RW ASUS DRW 0402P
1 x ASUS 52x cdrom
WinXP Pro. SP2
-----------------------------
Thermaltake Xaser III with Antec 550W TruePower - all coolers are working normaly

RMA or just return it for an ATI.

I have issues with my card as well but missed opportunity to return it after I modded it.

ive tried every lil thing u can think of! i came to a resolution few days ago when i flashed bios using the same original bios it has on it but i just changed both 2d and 3d clocks inside the bios to 425/1100 using OmniExtremeEditFXv15. i flashed and then ran 10 runs each of all game tests on 3d mark 03, and it didnt freeeeeezee!!!! , before it would NEVER pass all tests without a freeze atleaset. To be sure i also ran a couple of 3dmark05 which ran fine and tried a game which cause freezing usually when i throw smoke gren, but doesnt freeze now.

i also OC to 455/1150 and 3dmark03 accepts it fine without any artifacts but i see artifacts in 05 but at around 440/1150 theres really no artifacts in 05 but i think if i dont see artifacts in 03 and games at 455/1150 i should be fine. Also my temps have dropped even with the exact same bios and im running constant 425 now even at 455 i dont pass 85 load and im on round 58 idle.... im happy. now i cant wait to get NV5 and do some better clocks.

Sorry to bring this up but I have a quick question for Assyrian King. I'm looking at getting the OCZ psu. I have the same case as you but black. As you know, the PSU area is kinda small. How hard is it to put in that PSU? Because I know that the PSU is bigger then normal ones.

well the PSU should fit into most cases, my case is thermaltake tsunami so its got lots of room and space and the psu fit in perfect with 15mm spare, i think you can find the dimensions of the PSU somwhere maybe the OCZ site has em, not sure, but that way if u find the dimensions yu can be 100% sure it'l fit once u measure it up. other than that the PSU is FANTASTIC and looks real nice with its very shiny polished surface and is really heavy, and my voltage monitor shows rock solid stability. i think its the best out there.

edmundoab , i don't think the 6800 have any faults with there chips or hardware, but i do know and am 100% sure they have problems with there bios's , some do i dunno maybe its certian ones or diff revisions, but if you get one and find its freezing youll have to reflash it like i did with 2d\3d clocks the same , its simple todo and takes 2 mins. i havent had 1 freeze since ive flashed 3 weeks ago only when overclock at round 450/1200 but thats normal because your pushing it beyond what it can handle!

Darknessxk, i just realized you have the same case as me LOL. well yeh it fits fine except for 1 thing, the usb/firewire/sound port ontop of the case gets in the way when trying to slide the PSU into its place, what i did is unscrewed the usb/firewire/sound panel and slid it out through the top (its real easy) then i installed the PSU and then reattached the usb/firewire/sound port.

I am having similar problems as well, with the PixelView GeForce 6800 Ultra which I have recently bought. I want to try what AssyrianKing has done, but the only problem is, I can't seem to be able to find a BIOS editor which can change the frequency values for my card correctly. So I am wondering, is it possible for me to use a BIOS from other manufacturers for my GeForce 6800U, which is known to work correctly? I have done this successfully with my GeForce4 MX before, but I am not sure if it will work the same for this card... and this card is too expensive for me to take any chances.

So could someone please help me?

Ok, i think that i have manage to find a solution for my 6800 card, after reading numerous boards and threads, i have decided to modify the bios of the card.
Now it works, excellent. The idea was to set the 3D clock same as 2D clock (in my case 425 mhz). i think the temp got high by 1 C, that's not much. I really don't know what is the reason why this way works, but it does.
Change was made last week, and since than i have made extensive tests (games, 3dmarks, mostly), and haven't got a single error.

How i did it:
---------------------------------
There are many ways of doing this, i found that you can do it with other BIOS also, i mean, just backup your original bios and change it with a different one (from another manufacturer), my board is ASUS, i have seen that many people are using XFX or eVga BIOS's for this .... anyway, i have just backed up my bios, after that i have opened the file and changed the clock for 3D, RAM clock needs to be at same clock ... saved the file with another name .....haven't changed voltage for anything, and it would be good if you guys know the required voltage for 425 mhz clock for both 2D & 3D .... now they are like :

1.4V - 3D
1.3V - Throtle
1.1V - 2D

I am really happy with the 6800 now, and i wonder why the hell doesn't Asus make an official update for bios.

How did u guys edit your BIOSes? I tried all versions of OmniExtremeEdit and NiBiTor but the only frequency settings I can change with them are 3D frequencies. The 2D ones are greyed out

Oh, and my card is a PNY 6800GT, BIOS 5.40.02.15.02 and it crashes all the time

Mine is a PixelView GeForce 6800 Ultra... and I can't edit mine either. I get the messages, "Couldn't find VGPU info. ;(" and "Couldn't find clockrates. ;("
What can I do? I tried to flash my card with an nVidia BIOS, but nvflash doesn't let me, because of board mismatch... :'(

ok i edited my bios with omniextremeedit, because i initially tried another bios but i had a board mismatch, i even tried 3 version of nvflash. so i had to use my original biuos which i backed up with nvflash in dos and loaded it up into omniextreme, then edited it at 425/1100 for both 3d and 2d, i did not touch the voltages or anything else! then i saved it and i flashed with nvflash and it flashed fine.

and laza i have no idea why your 2d clocks are greyed out. are you sure your loading the same bios you backed up from your card?

Maybe it's different because our cards are not the same?
I tried downloading other GT cards bioses also, and I can't change their 2D freq. either. But if I take an ultra card BIOS then I can. So I guess I have to try with the Ultra BIOS, I'll just "downclock" it to GT specs. (don't want to OC yet, not sure about possible PSU issues)

Flashed to a PNY ultra BIOS. Temps got higher due to the higher 3D core temp, crashed also once already during a nvidia demo test run (garbled screen, lockup, then monitor turned itself off)

Have to test more though tonight.

But I'm just wondering how u guys modded your GT bios to get the same 2D / 3D frequencies? Anyone got a modified PNY GT bios to send to me?

OK, hey, had same problem with my 6800 Ultra....made by PNY, it is supposed to be clocked to 400 MHz core and 1ghz mem...but it seems PNY overclocked it themselves to compete with companies like eVga!!! At first I thought my card was damaged from the overclock, which I found using powerstrip. So I clocked it down some, no difference...

So, I found this thread earlier today, and firgured I'd play with my 3d/2d settings (I'd only done 3d before) and I brought them both equal at the overclocked speed, and, bam, COD runs fine...not sure about doom 3 yet, gotta try that on ultra high again.

To mod your bios, be smart, use powerstrip...just search it on google or even better, cnet. You can then alter 3d/2d settings.

Lemme know how it goes...

Cheerio!
