I was just wondering what the max temps on this thing is. Right now it jumps between 45C and 50C(is that good?). Thanks for the info.

Try putting the card under load. Open up rthdribl (and make it bigger) and watch the temp in real time.

Whats rthdribl?

I was just playing CSS on a 26 person server (1280*1024 All high Reflect all, 6XAA, 16XAF) and basically when I left temp was at 61. I dont play often on big servers like that so is that fine?

You cant check after leaving a game. The temps drops very fast.

http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/

Download that, and open it up. You dont have to install it, just extract it to a folder, and double-click the .exe. It puts the hammer on your video card, and will make your temps climb. After you start it, enlarge it a little by dragging it. Dont go too far though, if you go too far, you wont have enough memory. Just run it along side the temp in the drivers, it will be well above 61c.

Well fullcreen @ 1280X1024 and it said 4xMultisampling was hitting 72. Is that ok. Or should I tone down the clocks a bit?

Thats fine. That app stresses your video card like crazy, it would never, no matter what, get that high in a modern game. During Source my 6800 GT went up to 79C, and during rthdribl it goes up to 94C at full screen. I got a good aftermarket cooler for my video card, and myrthdribl temp dropped to 70C max. Source went down to 66C. I don't think there are any aftermarket coolers for the 7800 GTX yet, but there soon probably will be. Universal video card coolers might work though. If you think about it, try the zalman vf700. It cools well and is quiet too. I would recommend the thermalright V1, its the one I got, but I dont think it's compatible with the 7800 GTX.

GPU's get hot. Very hot. If you have a standard card with the standard fan/heatsink, then odds are that the manufacturer knows what they're doing.
Or how about opening the driver properties? See that little temp threshold thingy? It's set to way over 100C *by default*

So yes, I think it' safe to say that we can handle temps in the low 70's under load, without triggering a national crisis.
Relax, and let your card do its thing.

Thanks for the info guys. Im most likely going to get the Zalman VF700. I went to Newegg and a guy said he installed it on his 7800 GTX. So I think Im good.

Getting it because of your temps or your noise? If it's just your temp, don't get it. That card has a max temp of 110-130, so even 75C max is great. In the nvidia monitor, aslong as your card stays in the yellow zone under load you're fine.

Well Id also get it so I could overclock a bit further and still keeps the temps low. Im not worried about noise. I have a Panaflo 92mm Fan on my XP-90 which is pretty loud.

I guess you could go for it then. When I got the thermalright V1 on my 6800 GT, my oc limit was lifted to 440 mhz from 420 mhz. Also it ran 20C cooler and was much quieter. Ram didnt change much and was stuck at 1150 mhz.

Don't run 6x AA. That setting doesn't really work.

6XAA is for ATI cards only. Since HL2 is meant to play best on ATI they put the proprietary version of AA in there. If you want the best AA you will have to enable the good nvidia one from teh control panel.

Try play the FEAR sp demo. That game stress your card like crazy. BTW, the Zalman VF700 is very thick, so you might run into airflow problems when use it in SLI mode.

The NV Silencer Rev. 3, which works on the 7800 series, is going to be out in about two weeks.

I put a VF700 on my 7800GT for noise reasons, and it works like a champ. I hit 62C under full load, but normally I'm in the 52C range when playing games. And that's with the fan on the "silent" setting, in a case with zero fans.

Does anyone know how the VF700Cu works on a DFI lanparty UT SLI-DR board in SLI? How much room is between them? Will the first card pick up the heat from the 2nd card? What about the NV Silencer 5 Rev 3? I heard its a really tight fit, to the point of bending but can anyone confirm?

There was a review of the VF700 Alcu, which is of the same size as the VF700 Cu, from InsanTek, using 6800GT SLI on a DFI board. I coudn't find the article anymore, but it was a very very tight fit. There was virtually no space between the two cards, and the load temp for the top card was well over 100C, which was worse than the stock cooler in SLI.
