AGP is dead.

Both Ati and Nv are going to make twice as much money as they were since you have to upgrade to a new board and a new card.

They'll make more money making you upgrade then if they put out another AGP card.

Although Ati is hurting right now and putting out an AGP card that would definatley sell would not be a bad idea.

If anything does come out from Nv expect it to be the 7600 or whatever is right below their upper teir cards.

Actually, last-gen was AGP standard (GF6, X800), as they were launched in AGP form, and later used a bridge chip to convert to PCI-E

As far as that goes, what if you're in the boat I'm in? I bought a top-of-the-line nForce3 board months before PCI-E was around for AMD. Sure, I knew that it would eventually become standard, but even a couple of months after nForce4's launch, boards with them were no where to be found, so why should I have to bite the bullet when there's nothing wrong with AGP?

The best you PCI-E fanboys can muster is that "AGP doesn't support SLi so it sucks"? Give me a break. nForce3 has all of the same technology as nForce4, but it isn't PCI-E. Big deal. Its just simply NVIDIA trying to force their "New World Order" on everyone. There is no reason not to make AGP cards, as there is a MUCH larger market in AGP than there is in PCI-E, period.

Sure there is something wrong with AGP, they Found something better and have choosen to adopt that instead. The 6800 is PCIe infact the whole 6*** line, they were adapted to AGP. The only Cards adapted to PCIe from AGP where the 5700 and 5900 series. Obviously from he lack of a 7600 or 7200 model Nvidia is content on letting the 6*** series fill in the whole below so no reason making one just so people can be happier to because its a 7*** series. As for the 7800 No matter how much people believe that there is a want for it in AGP, the market for the device is very small in a very small market.

Why? Why isnt ddr dead? Because ddr2 isnt needed yet. Same with pci-e. Bandwidth isnt needed and theres a cheap way to make the agp cards and the market still exists so why not?

-My guess is 2007 we will see only older or low-end of the new gpu lineup in agp flavor.

its pretty close to dead. try finding a new motherboard that supports the socket 939 and agp. there aren't many and they are generally from unknown companies.

I know the feeling of sitting and waiting, as I was in this position the past six months. Sooner or later you just have to pull the trigger on something and enjoy it. I went the value route and got a plain 6800 to pair with my socket 754 agp mobo. Looks like my next computer refresh will be a biggie.

SLI may be the new standard, but the vast majority of installed PC's are AGP system. There are a ton of people that would love to get a 7800 without having to buy a new motherboard as well.

IMO...There will be 7800 and X1800 in AGP flavors. It may just take 5-6 more months. You can bet on it.

Thanks, Reddogzzz, I'm in on the petition

To those who say ATI & nVidia just get double the money (or whatever) from the switch. NOT here they won't. I don't have the budget for both (1) high-end gfx card and (2) new mobo and CPU.

So, if I have to buy a new mobo & CPU, somebody's (ATI or nVidia) will be getting LESS of my upgrade $'s.

BTW: mobo's are a lot less expensive than my gfx card upgrades, so they might make a wee bit if I get a mobo with their chipset in it. But AFAIK neither ATI nor nVidia makes any money on my CPU purchases. They'd have to own AMD for that to happen
