Anyone have an idea of when it's supposed to ship from Fry's? I'm building my system up in mid-November and just want to make sure that the card'll be here when I order everything else.

What I don't understand is the "mass hysteria" that surrounds this video card launch. How is this a "mid-range" card at a "mid-range" price when it will probably not even play Crysis at 10 fps? Shouldn't "mid-range" cards give us at least a nominal experience of the latest games that are out? This mid-range card should have been available for offering nearly a year ago with the launch of 8800 GTX. Which I must remind you guys haven't really dropped in price in nearly 4 fiscal quarters. Also may I doubly remind you guys that 8800 GTX-SLI is not enough for the upcoming Crysis. So imho, it is best not to jump on this bandwagon and wait out for a card that will actually play Crysis as it is meant to be played.

As the opening paragraph in anandtech's article states

Here we are, a year after the launch of G80, and we are seeing what amounts to the first real "refresh" part. Normally, we see a new or revamped version of hardware about 6 months after its introduction, but this time NVIDIA introduced its latest architecture over a six month period instead. First we saw the high end hardware hit, then the low end parts emerged after resting on previous generation hardware to serve as the low end. We haven't seen a true midrange part come out over the past year, which has disappointed many.

its not that this card is a great deal, we've just been deprived for the past year...

As a note, I am not a AMD fan boy. In fact, I currently own 2 6600GT cards.

We desperately need AMD to keep these guys on their toes to drive the prices down. Do you guys remember the good old days of quarterly price drops?

Compared to other video cards, this card is now BY FAR the best value on the market.

Other than Crysis, this card should play just about any current game at the highest of settings and at high resolutions.

The developers of Crysis have said OVER AND OVER that it will be many many months before hardware is out that can play the game in all its glory. Most people who enjoyed Far Cry understand this and are not bothered by it, because if you run Far Cry NOW, years after its release, it still looks better than almost every other game on the market.

EVGA 8800GT KO for ~$270 at mwave. Not a great deal perhaps, but then again it's not a bad price for a KO model on launch day given what other sites such as newegg are asking for the Superclocked models.

EDIT

Reported in stock as of 10-29-07 6:15pm EST

MWave canceled my order for two eVGA Superclocked cards. I made the order over 5 hours ago today, and they are just now calling me and telling me it was out of stock.

Aughhh, that pisses me off. I could have gone through another source hours ago.

Here

Agreed... preordered a stock evga myself.

I feel I didnt need an OC version for my Opteron 185, but it will be a great replacement for my 7800GT especially at 1680x1050 at max detail in Oblivion, COH: OF.

Now Im hoping I can get the GT by this Friday......................

I'm considering this for my 7900 GT replacement. As some of you I'm in the same boat. However, I'm still with a Socket 939 board. I may just hold off until prices begin to drop in general before I make a whole new massive system upgrade. So far, my current system still can play the games, except for Crysis demo... man, 15 fps just sucks... and <10 on the intro.... WITH medium settings on.

danny~!

bamacre, never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. He obviously doesn't understand that this is a HIGH-end card at a MID-range price and is asking for it to perform at a level that the crysis developers have stated is not possible with even the highest of existing hardware.

That sucks. For what it's worth, I just got an e-mail from mwave that my KO order has been verified and is being processed.

anyone know that if ordering a evga through fry's if I'm likely to get the free copy of quakewars that comes with most evgas? Plan on buying the game anyway, so it'll help keep the video card upgrade cost down for me. Oh and the price shows 249 at http://ncixus.com/products/index.php?sku=26778 but when I add it to my cart it jumps to 289.99.

Meh, I didn't want to hear that!

And yes, it does suck, it really farking sucks. These were going into systems for re-sale. I can't find anything decent for less than ~$280 now.

I sent them a nasty little email, along with a pdf of my ZZF account history.

I just placed my pre-order at Fry's and got some info. They don't have an actual ship date yet but they expect to know by the end of the week. The guy couldn't guarantee anything, but he seemed pretty confident I'd have mine in my Nov. 15th or so.

Lastly, I asked what their policy was on canceling pre-orders just in case it took too long, and he said it was possible to just cancel the pre-order and get your credit back right away. So this definitely seems like the best bet; order it cheap and hope it comes in soon, then cancel it if there's a better price or it comes in too late.

This thread rocks!

Is it worth paying the extra $20-30 bucks to get an overclocked version?

There's so many impatient buyers out there. As for me , I am waiting for the launch of the radeon 3800 series. I want to see who comes on top before I make my purchase. By the end of Nov, the 8800GT will be priced at $200 while ATI/AMD will have to make the price of the radeon 3850 very competitive.

@manko,

It's the best buy I think. Shipping is $7.12 but OC to 625, No shipping date. Fry's did alright by me with their HDs.

Thanks again,

That's the one I went with. I picked 2nd day shipping for $10 that way when they get it, I'll get it quickly. And it's a slight OC, not much, but for $10 extra, why not? Overall less than the PNY cards we've been seeing and this gets a LIFETIME warranty.

THAT... and I really assume the waiting line for the BFGs is much shorter than the EVGA one.

Either way, the Fry's pre-order is an amazing deal right now. Hopefully they ship the cards out soon.

Of course nitwit Frys doesn't even have the competence to LIST what MODEL of card it is so
you know what the exact manufacturer features, warranty, etc. is.
Depending on the model (which we don't know) you may or may not even have a lifetime warranty option.

And if they don't ship the cards within about 2.5 weeks you could lose your
ability to get the lifetime EVGA warranty for the card since they insist it's only valid if
the card is registered within 30 days of the 'purchase' (which on the receipt would probably
look like it's the date of pre-order even though they may not SHIP it or even CHARGE it (who knows)
until weeks later). And you can't register the card without physically receiving it first to get the
serial number, inspect/test it etc. etc.

http://www.evga.com/support/lifetime/

For our retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products purchased on or after June 22, 2005, EVGA will provide a limited lifetime warranty to the original purchaser of each retail product that the product will not suffer, in material or workmanship, from any defect that adversely affects the performance of the product. This limited lifetime warranty is valid for the life of the retail product, so long as the original purchaser owns the product, based upon the following conditions:

* All EVGA Products purchased ON or AFTER November 1, 2006 MUST be registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE to receive limited lifetime warranty. (All products not registered within 30 days will ONLY receive a 1 year limited warranty.)
* Removal and or Defacing of Serial/Part number sticker(s) on ANY EVGA products WILL void ALL warranties.
* ALL Defective products sent in for RMA replacement MUST INCLUDE A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL INVOICE / RECEIPT. (Products NOT including invoice/receipt will be returned to the customer at customer's expense.)
* Limited Lifetime Warranty is for all retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part numbers A1, AR, AX, BR*, BX*, DR, DX, FR, FX, SG, SL, or S2.
* [Replacement products are shipped out as -BR or -BX and will carry the same limited lifetime warranty that your original purchase had based on your registration.]
* All retail Graphics Card and Mainboard products ending in the part number K1 receive a limited 3 year warranty when registered within 30 days from ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE.
* There is no physical damage to the PCB, GPU/chipset, or components that are caused by: Damage due to improper installation, damage during modification of any kind, damage during any type of Aftermarket cooling installation, and water damage of any kind.
* All replacement products shipped out for replacement are recertified by EVGA to uphold the quality and guarantee of our products.
* All RMA products will require the customer to pay for shipping to EVGA. EVGA will cover all return shipping back for the RMA replacement with (Ground) Shipping through UPS.*
