What I don't understand is the "mass hysteria" that surrounds this video card launch.
How is this a "mid-range" card at a "mid-range" price when it will probably not even play Crysis at 10 fps?
Shouldn't "mid-range" cards give us at least a nominal experience of the latest games that are out?

Shouldn't "mid-range" cards give us at least a nominal experience of the latest games that are out? This mid-range card should have been available for offering nearly a year ago with the launch of 8800 GTX. Which I must remind you guys haven't really dropped in price in nearly 4 fiscal quarters. Also may I doubly remind you guys that 8800 GTX-SLI is not enough for the upcoming Crysis. So imho, it is best not to jump on this bandwagon and wait out for a card that will actually play Crysis as it is meant to be played.
As the opening paragraph in anandtech's article states
Here we are, a year after the launch of G80, and we are seeing what amounts to the first real "refresh" part. Normally, we see a new or revamped version of hardware about 6 months after its introduction, but this time NVIDIA introduced its latest architecture over a six month period instead. First we saw the high end hardware hit, then the low end parts emerged after resting on previous generation hardware to serve as the low end. We haven't seen a true midrange part come out over the past year, which has disappointed many.
its not that this card is a great deal, we've just been deprived for the past year...
As a note, I am not a AMD fan boy. In fact, I currently own 2 6600GT cards.
We desperately need AMD to keep these guys on their toes to drive the prices down. Do you guys remember the good old days of quarterly price drops?

Here
bamacre, never argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. He obviously doesn't understand that this is a HIGH-end card at a MID-range price and is asking for it to perform at a level that the crysis developers have stated is not possible with even the highest of existing hardware.Originally posted by: bamacre

Compared to other video cards, this card is now BY FAR the best value on the market.

Oh, please.

Other than Crysis, this card should play just about any current game at the highest of settings and at high resolutions.
The developers of Crysis have said OVER AND OVER that it will be many many months before hardware is out that can play the game in all its glory. Most people who enjoyed Far Cry understand this and are not bothered by it, because if you run Far Cry NOW, years after its release, it still looks better than almost every other game on the market.

Aughhh, that pisses me off. I could have gone through another source hours ago.

That sucks. For what it's worth, I just got an e-mail from mwave that my KO order has been verified and is being processed.

There's so many impatient buyers out there. As for me , I am waiting for the launch of the radeon 3800 series. I want to see who comes on top before I make my purchase. By the end of Nov, the 8800GT will be priced at $200 while ATI/AMD will have to make the price of the radeon 3850 very competitive.

@manko,
It's the best buy I think. Shipping is $7.12 but OC to 625, No shipping date. Fry's did alright by me with their HDs.

That's the one I went with. I picked 2nd day shipping for $10 that way when they get it, I'll get it quickly. And it's a slight OC, not much, but for $10 extra, why not? Overall less than the PNY cards we've been seeing and this gets a LIFETIME warranty.
THAT... and I really assume the waiting line for the BFGs is much shorter than the EVGA one.
Either way, the Fry's pre-order is an amazing deal right now. Hopefully they ship the cards out soon.
