so does this mean i can sell my old ati 9800 for $300? or would they ban me from the buy & sell forum for that? all these naming schemes are just ridiculous.

the fact ATI used to have similar numbers isn't what's confusing about it, never has been.

Its the fact they used similar cores to refresh the 8800 series AND resuing existing names with completely new cores.

But again you need to demonstrate that the reduction of texturing hurts performance more than the reduction of shading ability.

You would also need to demonstrate how your multi-texturing results are relevant in today?s games.

So far you have failed to do either while I have provided ample evidence to demonstrate shaders becoming more and more widespread compared to texturing.

You always want me to provide proof but I'm not the one with $650 ultra and I think I proved all I can. Since I don't have high end card with 112 or 128 SP I can't provide proof. If you send your ultra my way I will throughly test your card and send it back to you with an article posted here.

You test you card with texture fillrate that only rivals 1950xtx of course it's going to get slower. AA uses texture fillrate. Textures draw screens not shader. Shader are effects.

Thank god for guys like Cookie Monster who actually knows what he is talking about. Without guys like him this board go down the drain.

You don't need to own something in order to provide proof.

AA uses texture fillrate.
Explain to us in your own words how MSAA/CSAA impacts texture fillrate.

Textures draw screens not shader. Shader are effects.
Erm, it's often the case where there's a single texture fetch but then multiple shaders apply effects to it (e.g. lighting, decals, etc) to generate what is finally displayed on screen.
