As of now they have a heatsink and a PCB as far as I can tell. Do they have something other than a plaintive "we have a product for this segment too, sometime" the day before their competitor launches? When they've got something that may or may not even have the chip under it let alone a release date and their opponent has stock in stores, that's a sad attempt to distract attention.

Cuda has very little impact on the vast majority of gamers. G-sync is an over priced proprietary tech that is limited a handful of displays (as opposed to freesync which has a TON of supported displays). Shadow play is a gimmick used by very few.

There's a reason why CUDA and G-Sync are proprietary technologies.

nVidia had to spend a whole lot of money on developing and marketing these technologies. What was AMD doing then? Waiting for nVidia to come up with innovations and copying their ideas.

People know who the real market leader is.

CUDA and G-Sync are utterly irrelevant to the 1060. CUDA matters to a vanishingly small fraction of gamers. G-Sync is expensive enough that there's no good matches to the 1060's price range, and almost invariably a cheaper Freesync screen is going to be a better idea because savings can be cashed into graphics cards either by getting more powerful cards or replacing them more frequently. Alternately the monitors someone with a 1060 or 480 are going to look at are going to quite possibly include Freesync options, and very likely won't include G-Sync options.

Now if you want to talk about technologies that really benefit people running $200 range cards, let's talk about the CPUs that get paired with them and how DX 12 helps reduce CPU utilization and leave more CPU for the game. You benefit far more from the continued existence of AMD than I do from NV.

Bonus points for typing out G-Sync's name with the dash though, I see few people doing that, and you've got me doing it.

July is just days away so it seems kind of strange. Where are all the shipping manifests some users like to post? What about leaked benchmarks?

If they're launching in July I suspect it will be just like the 1080/1070 where we're getting chips as fast as they roll of the line. GP106 being smaller should mean more availability, but it will still effectively be a paper launch.

However, if Nvidia thinks that they stack up favorably against the competition, it doesn't hurt them to launch as soon as possible even if stock is limited. If they're better, people will wait for better availability. I don't think they'll be able to get away with FE pricing though as no one would want to spend $50+ they don't have to when there's a competing product available already.

Time will tell. Seems the norm is to show all the silly shipping manifests lately. Just wondering why they haven't popped up yet. Looks like they are usually a couple months ahead of products skimming thru threads.

If the 1060 is half the size of a 1080, why do people think it will match the 980 in performance ? 50% of 1080 performance would be ~970, 980 is around 60%.

Simple math indicates that in order to match a 980, the 1060 will either need to be more than 1280SP, or it will need to be clocked significantly higher than the 1080.

Based on rumours it's 1280+ SPs, 192-bit, 48 ROPs, 6GB, so not 'half GP104'. Adding to that, Geforce GTX 1070 is a lot closer to Geforce GTX 1080 performance-wise than TFLOPS would suggest.

Bring on the competition, it's good for gamers!

Btw, AMD is aggressively pushing into the entry & mainstream GPU market. Not mid-range. $99, $149/$179 and $199/$229 don't exactly scream mid-range.

Mid-range is the 970/390.

when the heck did $400 graphics cards become midrange? i feel like i'm taking crazy pills

i'm not going to spend all morning looking at this, but what's the price of a product that's not available to purchase?

It's simple for me. The GTX 1060 would be a win in my book it's ~GTX980 with 15% overclocking headroom. Don't really matter to much if it's 4GB, 6GB or 8GB. Basically, I want the GTX1060 ~ GTX980 @ <$249. The same standard as the RX480.

I guess you must've missed the launch party of 1070, that & the fact that (I bet) 99% of sales are above 379$ which is the base price IMO, not that FE ponzi scheme!

A month ago I saw one shipping manifest that could be the 1060. Definitely not a flurry of them that precede a launch. Nvidia is leaking this to get people to wait for a 1060 that is most certainly going to paper launch.

The shipping manifests on Zauba need not be leaked, you can easily search for them if you know what to look for.

No, I'm not a fan of false statements floating around, and I agree that only one example was needed to prove it incorrect. However, he didn't provide the proof, and the "we" was referring to the proof.

It's just a subtle slip, but it shows that it's often not about the facts being correct, but about us vs them.
It's one of those little things that add up to this being a less pleasant place to discuss technology than it could be.

The proof was from ShintaDK two posts above my own.
Should I have reposted his links?
Again, the "we" was the forum, but more specifically meaning Head1985 and myself.

Subtle slip huh? Lmao.
