Not sure what they were before, but currently show as not sold direct from amazon, so usual crappy mark up pricing. Those EU prices though :O

So much price gouging on these and 480 parts from retailers outside of the US :'(

Msrp 260 and no cards but looks good in reviews
FE 300 and next to no cards but looks good on forums
Retail 350 and very limited supply but people buy because of 260 and reviews.

Most will end up buying 960 anyway.

I simply dislike the practice when a company or politician consistently talk to or adresses the most stupid in people. Nv new marketing pricing practice is such a thing.

Its a damn dangerous practice because it promotes the most bad sides in humans. I actually dont hope jhh is knowing what he is doing here because its way out. If he knows he is just himself a cynical "money cannon" that he have prior accused Intel of beeing.

Let's wait for the release. But I do fear this is a PR launch and 1060s won't be in stock at $250 for months to come. Remember, the delta between x80 and x60 has always been 3-5 months. This is under 2 months, and the 1080s have only just started arriving in quantity.

lol, "list price: $690" from those Amazon links?

to be fair, that has to be a scummy vendor hoping people will just confuse this for a 1080 with marked-down "super sale!" prices. Or just an idiot running things at their shop and/or Amazon unable to do due-diligence for this type of scummery.

probably all of that is to blame.

I'm going to guess you're right. I'll probably just overpay for a 1070 and call it a day.

Not bad performance at all but not a good deal at $300.
The 1070 is actually a better pick for the AIB versions if you can get one below $430. Until AIB versions at $300 or less come out for the 1060, it's really there for people who are hard price constrained. Otherwise, if you value performance/dollar, the 1070 makes better sense as long as it's under $430 until AIB versions of the 1060 are under $300.

Looks like the MSRP of the MSI 1060 Gaming X is $290, who knows what it will sell for though...

Good to see reviews of aftermarket cards on day one, hopefully that means they will go on sale the same time as the FE cards.

7% faster than the 480, 1% faster than the 980.

Agreed. Not bad performance.

Only slightly higher power consumption than 960:
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/24.html

Price is the only negative thing. $300 FE is silly, and even the theoretical $250 is still a 25% markup over 960 launch. While it makes a strong case against the $240 480 8GB, I think this price will be restrictive to budget buyers and $200 480 4GB and ($150-$160?) 470s will be hard to not recommend from a performance per dollar perspective. 1050 or whatever will be interesting to see next.

I might buy this card. Not going to spend all day trying to find one available today, though. I can wait.

GTX 1060 is a good card if it can hit price points of USD 259 - USD 269. Against custom Rx 480 like Strix the performance should be similar. Perf/watt is a clean win for Nvidia. I am looking forward to custom Rx 480 vs custom GTX 1060. Polaris has room for improvement when the GF 14LPP issues are sorted out. A Rx 485 launch early in 2017 could make this a very close contest.

Haven't had a chance to glance at reviews but what I'm reading so far seems good. Price is the only thing that's a bit off.

I wish the AIB 480's would be out at the same time so I could decide. Is msi the only one so far priced? I know gigabyte, asus and other models were suppose to be on sale too.

Looks to me that the GTX 1060 is going to be the mid-range card for this generation. Performance at least as good as the RX 480, if not better, with much better power efficiency to boot.

Hoping that they make enough of these to go around.

The 480 is faster in DX12 and Vulkan (except for Tomb Raider) so not sure it will be by next year.

My guess was right so far that the aib 1060's will remain around $280-290 a few dollars off the FE editions.

Now I need to wait for custom 480's if those are also around $300 I'm just going to go with a 1070 I suppose.

Although this makes a good card for 1080p but the way it's priced makes the 480 a better value, seeing as it's only 7% faster.

1060 slightly beats 480 in DX11.
480 beats 1060 in DX12 by a much larger margin than it loses in DX11.

If you are going to play DX12 games, get the 480 for less. If you are going to play DX11 games and get a new card in about a year, get the 1060.

dude the competition is strong. GTX 1060 is far from the mid-range card. ref Rx 480 (which is heavily throttling and rarely hits 1266 mhz) is 5-10% slower in DX11. But Rx 480 rocks in DX12/Vulkan.

Custom Rx 480 like strix/nitro against custom gtx 1060 should be very close. DX12/Vulkan is the future. If you want to buy for the present and future custom Rx 480 is the card to get.
