Definitely GM204-like performance. GP106 rumors point to half a 1080. That at least is already 970 performance. But it should have a bit more, if the 192 bit bus is confirmed. Effective bandwidth & rasterizer is not half a 1080 but more.

Could well end up GTX 980 performance. Probably ~100W gaming load. Basically NV can tune it to slightly beat the reference RX 480 since they are coming out a month later.

Why would buyers need to be "Nvidia-leaning" if they wait for GP106 before making a purchase?

Any educated consumer would wait for both cards before buying, if GP106 is close.

I think he just means that Nvidia-leaning buyers are more likely to wait based on that one picture. If it was an official announcement, it would probably be different.

Ah I see now, my bad. But it seems Nvidia-leaning buyers would be willing to wait with or without the "intentional leak".

Totally agree. The only problem is we have no idea of an exact release date. Only rumors and speculation. If Nvidia came out tomorrow and announce a release date within 30 days, I think it's reasonable to wait a bit if you can. Anything beyond 30 days is just too long in my opinion. That's like 5 year in GPU years when you consider that new, faster and cheaper GPUs are released annually (in human years. )

Some new info/rumour by Bench-life. Better translation would be appreciated!

- NDA lifts July 7 (next thursday)
- On sale around July 14
- 3GB and 6GB versions of GP106-300, and two versions of GP106-400 (3GB and 6GB?)
- GP106 with 1250 CUDA cores (GP106-300?) doesn't support SLI
- Geforce GTX 1060 3GB for $249, Geforce GTX 1060 6GB for $299

BenchLife said:
As for the GeForce GTX 1060 listing price, of course, the sources also mentioned, but at this stage is for reference only.

DigiTimes said:
With AMD aggressively pushing into the mid-range and mainstream sectors, Nvidia has moved forward the releases of GeForce GTX 1060 products by a month and is likely to reduce their prices to make them more competitive.

DigiTimes says they might reduce prices to make them more competitive.

Just wait until we get the 1050 flounders edition. Just $200. ($100 for the gpu, $100 for a mediocre heatsink)

Are you saying that anyone who bought a 1070/1080 instead of waiting for Vega is uneducated?

Given the prices of the 480, I don't see how these can be competitive. It'd likely have to be above 980 performance to equal the 480 in price/performance.

we don't know the exact performance of both cards (yet), but if the 1060 base version has 6GB vs 4GB of the 480 that's already an advantage, also, potentially better OC and power draw (considering the 1080/70)?

also, let's not forget the GTX 960 was an $200 card, I don't see why a 1060 can't be the same, although that would be in direct response to the 480, because the 1070 shows what happens when Nvidia doesn't have strong competition (prices up from the 970 and "founders edition"), if you go just by the 1070 prices it would make sense for the 1060 to be 250-300, but with the 480 out they probably can't do that

Are my feelings of 4GB minimum a bit premature?
I'm put off by the notion of a 3GB 1060.

I dunno. People still swearing by their 7970s and 780s Depending on res, 3GB could be perfect. But fear not, the 6GB would put you back on.

3GB is not good enough and will really suck if Nvidia goes for the asymmetrical arrangement again.

4GB for 1080 will be fine, lots of games lately with 4k texture options run great with it. Even the vram hog Rise of the Tomb Raider runs great on 980 or Fury. Far Cry Primal had a 4K texture pack and I ran that game really well at 4K with max textures on my 290X.

But, 3GB definitely... cutting it close. 6GB is better buy if NV goes 3/6GB options for 1060.

You forgot about the 3/6 GB conundrum, suddenly the 1/2 GB less will not matter, especially when the lower priced card has more VRAM!

3GB sounds odd considering even the 960 2GB was discontinued at some point for the 4GB ones, right? (you can understand due to 192bit memory, but Nvidia sold 192bit cards before with 2 and 1GB)

I'm not sure if Nvidia ever released a successor with less memory before? maybe the 460 768MB?

3GB for mid 2016 $200 sounds bad, I would think as said earlier that 3GB would be reserved for the 1050!?

As I recall (didn't look it up to confirm) nVidia (or anybody really) has ever had a 192bit card with 1GB or 2GB. It has always been 1.5GB or 3GB. I do not think it is even physically possible to have 1GB or 2GB with a 192bit interface.

they had the 550 ti with 1GB 192bit, GTX 660 with 2GB 192bit

$249/299? Really? It's got to be a GP104 cut card that's faster than a 480. GP106 isn't going to beat a 480 or justify that kind of pricing when a 1070 is apparently $379.

My wallet will be ready...only if there is a decent game to play

Deus Ex:Mankind Divided will be the first AAA title with DX12 native engine when it launches in August. All of the RX 480 AIB cards will be out then and so will apparently the GTX 1060. I'm going to wait for the benchmarks on that game to see who the winner will be.

Why are you interested in who wins between GTX 1060 vs RX 480 when your previous purchase was in a higher tier? These cards would hardly be upgrades for you, according to your sig.
